Getting started with DIM...Help needed!

Hey guys,

Im in need of some help, and not sure if there is a simple way to do it.
Let me start by saying I use Daz as a very surface level tool for models for drawing reference, I know enough to do basic posing, lighting and rendering. I have never understood file paths, where things go and why, and I probably never will completely.

I avoided using the DIM when it first came out, because it wasn't as simple as installing the application and it takes over your content management, from what I was reading you had to go and uninstall, or remove directories, and the way my brain is wired, I didn't want to screw anything up. I continued to save the downloads to my mac, and let the automated program put them where they were supposed to go.

Today I made some purchases for the first time in 2 weeks, I see now that I no longer have that option, I can download the DIM files, but the old installer box does not pop up anymore. What I get now is folders with subfolders, and I feel like it's going to be a nightmare to try to manually copy and paste each folder for the 5 purchases I made.

It feels like Daz is forcing me into using the DIM. In theory I love the Idea of the DIM, but I hate that it cannot just uninstall everything for me, because I don't know what I should and should not install. I wish the DIM could just recognize my installs already on my Mac and let me move forward.

Is there a simple way to essentially delete all of my old installs at once, and just have the DIM re-install it all over for me correctly?

I just feel like if I have to track it all down folder by folder, Im going to dump files I need or something.

Any help would be appreciated!

Not a Mac person but I would think if you have been installing everything to one content library you just need to delete that library. If you also been saving your own scenes and working file to that library you should create a new personal library folder to back your stuff up to. Easy, non technical way to back them up is to tediously load them one by one to Studio then save out to the new personal library.

    hello,
It all depends on if you a lot of content from other sources, freebees and such things, all in the same content library or if you just have DAZ content, and it also depends on how large it s compared to the total available space on your hard drive.

    - If you have a crowded disk and no other content than from DAZ, you will probably need to delete the old before installing a new. Just delete the library by moving it to trash and empty trash, then download + Install via DIM. Then in DS do Reimport Metadata.

    - If you have a lot of content that wont come through DIM, I would recommend to remove the base Genesis things in the old one /data/DAZ 3D/Genesis/Base/Genesis.dsf just to avoid conflicts, then install with DIM into a new library and tell DS that "this is a library to look in".

    - If you have a crowded disk and a lot of content from other sources I would recommend add another or delete everything and reinstall the third party content as well.

If you have more questions, please ask.
