Seeking suggestions for rain

I would apreciate suggestions for a 3DL compatible tool for creating rain in DAZ Studio. I would like to be able to create rain ranging from light showers through heavy drenching downpours. There are two limitations on what I can use: I don't have Photoshop, so brushes won't help me, and I don't use Iray, so it needs to be compatible with 3Delight.

Typically it's done in a program like Photoshop. You can check out GIMP. It's free.

This product contains two rain geometries (light and heavy rainfall) of fair size, and it's on sale now. The geometries are straight (not slanted) rain with ground splashes. Otherwise, I suggest looking up Flink at Renderosity for rain planes.
Thank you for the suggestions. I picked up all three of the RDNA Atmospherics products, which are free. While they don't do exactly what I was looking for, they do look like they will be useful. I will look into the other options that were mentioned. As for GIMP, I am not really comfortable with the UI, so I use Paint.net instead. It does what I want, but does not support brushes.
