Genesis/M5 and M4 Creature Creator Add Ons?
I was wondering if people have had success with using the M4 Creature Creator Add On product with Genesis/M5. I know that there's a new creature creator product for Genesis, but it doesn't have the paws and tails like the old M4 one. However, I also know that M4 morphs often aren't entirely compatible with Genesis or M5.
So I suppose my question is, if I get the M4 Creature Creator Add On and try to apply it to M5 or Genesis Basic Male, will it work? Or will I need to tweak things? And if so, what will I need to do to fix it? I did read on another thread where someone had some trouble with the add on, but they didn't say exactly what went wrong. I'm hoping the problems are easy to fix and I won't need to buy Genesis Generation X to make it work.
I'm using Daz Studio 4.5. I don't have the Michael 4 Creature Creator Morphs product, but it doesn't say it's required to use the Add On.

You'd need to tweak - AutoFit works OK for things that follow te general shape of Genesis, but it wouldn't work well with the legs as they need to bend in different places.
The problem lies with fitting the items to the Genesis model. Once it is "Fit to" Genesis; it loses it's original bone structure & takes on the Genesis one. So the tail would have no bones it it; because Genesis has no tail bones and the special bones in the paws/hoofs get replaces with the Genesis leg & foot bones which do not work with the mesh.
Thanks for the replies! So I guess if the problem is losing bones, Generation X won't really fix it, right? It's no good if the tail looks right but can't move. I'd really rather just do everything with Genesis or M5, but I suppose in this case it'd be best to just use M4 and save myself the trouble.
You can parent the tail to Genesis' pelvis or hip. This will let you keep the tail bones intact; allowing for posing; and lets you position it in the proper location.
Really? That sounds easy to do. But what about the paw/foot bones?
That might be a bit harder to achieve. I'll see if I can get something to work.
Ok; this works half decently. Load the hoofs/paws and parent it to the Genesis hip. If you have anything but the M4 shape selected; you will have to adjust the hoofs/paws in the x & y scale to fit. Then just pose Genesis and apply the same pose to the M4 creature legs. you will have to go into the hips of the creature legs and zero out the translations and rotations to put it back into it's proper position.
Genesis with M4 shape & M5 Phillip textures. Used the Genesis basic male running pose.
Are Genesis's legs still there, but hidden by the creature legs? And since you have to zero out the hips to make the legs fit with the new pose would keyframe animating the legs be annoying (would you have to keep zeroing them out)?
Cool render, by the way.
I turned everything from the pelvis down invisible. I'm not sure about animating. I assume that it would require re-positioning the creature legs for each frame. You might want to try parenting the legs to the Genesis pelvis instead to see if that helps.
That was a quick test to see if it was feasible.
Okay, I'll get it and try that. Thanks for all your help!
I have tried those items on Genesis in AniMate and it just does not work. Even a V4 or M4 using them give odd results.
Were you using the M4 shape for Genesis or the old M4 character? Also, were you using aniBlocks or keyframing the animation?
I tried both M4 genesis shape for one test and the normal M4 figure for the second. I just did AniBlock's for a quick look.
Thanks for the help, everyone! I bought the add on and was able to set it up because of all your advice. I don't have the M4 shapes for Genesis, so I just put the legs on M4 himself. As long as I parent them to the hips everything connects and moves well, and I can keyframe animate them. The tail works great, too. The legs don't seem to work well with IK though, but I'm guessing it's because their IK chain is different from the chain in a normal leg. Everything else works fine, so it's okay.
Yep the IK chain was my drawback. Keyframes will fix it. I did not have KeyMate at the time. I do now.
