Shaders DS default: difficulty

Maybe this is a known issue; in any case I'm facing the following difficulty when using the DAZ Studio version 4.5.1.56 Pro 32-bit:
trying to apply a shader from DS default to for example a primitive, its render results in an uniform, white spot.

Please, there is maybe a new release of DS default, or some other solution?

Thank you!

I'm not quite sure what you are doing - if you apply a shader without any textures then it's going to be white, and if you don't have any real lights in the scene any specular highlight will be facing the camera. If neither of those are relevant perhaps you could post a screenshot of your settings and the render you are getting.

Thank you for your prompt reply!
The Object shown in the screenshots has been produced in ZBrush (one tool plus two subtools), exported as .OBJ and imported in DAZ Studio 4.5.1.56 Pro 32.bit, with 3 textures., Windows XP

Image_1: in "Surfaces", selected "mat 1" (of the Lion); the texture is appearing on the right.

Image_2: from "DS Defaults", selected"dz Glossy", clicking Contrl + double-click

Image_3: Clicking "Accept": the Lion turns white, with the exception of some traces of the texture

Rendered: the lion is plain white, and only the other parts have been rendered.

May be there is some error in the process; any help from your part will be precious!

    Thank you!

Have you uv mapped your object?

Textures will not show up on an object that hasn't been uv mapped.

This can be done in UV mapper classic(free program) or you can use zbrush as you have it.

    edit to fix spelling error.

If you take a look at his surafce pane for each preset used you will see that the third one he is having issues with doesn't look right, there seems to be surface channels missing. I can't check myself as I am in the middle of a 3 day render.

Anyways why can't you just set up the surface setting manually. Do you need help with undeestanding the Surface Channels? If so try this out http://homepage.eircom.net/~neilvpose/ds-settings.htm

I'm not sure what you mean Szark...could be cause I've just gotten up. Still early here. If you explain what needs checking I can have a look...most common reason for a texture not to show up is it hasn't been uv mapped which is why I posted that.

Yeah, it's some problem with the shader file itself, the DS Default shaders shouldn't look like that in the settings, and it's coming up as 'custom' instead of DsGlossy or whatever.

The regular DS Default shader that's on the item when you import it will do the same thing as the DS Glossy shader, though. Just make sure it's set to Glossy [which it should be by default], and there you have it.

    LOL Yeah no problem.

Ok look at the screen shots, on the far right of each image shows a cut off Surface Pane, see the third image down and look at the surface pane, see how many surfaces settings there are, very few. This tells me that this preset is broken and willl need bug reporting if not already. I am only guessing as the OP isn't complaining about the textures not showing as they seem to be showing in image one and two. :)

Aaah...didn't even look at the surface pane as it wasn't all there. Thanks Agent Unawares for checking.

This is one of the old separate shaders, with the code from the DAZ Default shader split out into one shader per lighting model with the unique settings that are hard-coded to a specific value in the actual DAZ Defualt Shader. Unfortunately I don't think they are working well in DS4 - but a similar result can be obtained by using the normal shader and changing the lighting model setting.

Thank you, Richard, for your assistance: now I have clearer ideas about the situation.

Many thanks also to the other Members that kindly answered: Pendraia, Szark, Agent_Unawares!

I am sorry, I don't know whether these are still working in DS4.5, but it is worth a try, I think.
