Silver Glow in Iray

I'm not sure this is possible, but I'm trying to make something glow in silver. (Fingernails, specifically).
So I applied a silver shader, then applied emissive and put a dark gray on the emission color... but the rendered glow is still white.
Looking into some color theory, metalic colors are the results of light hitting them, so I don't know if you can actually have a metalic producing light.

What sort of silver shader was it? The Emissive shader doesn't always play nice with the same parameters used for other types of surfaces, it might be overriding the "silver" settings. Some combinations just don't mix.
The "white glow" might be due to the light being too bright and washing out any colour applied to the material. Have you adjusted the Emission Temperature or Luminance parameters?
I've tried the basic shaders that come with Iray, and Mec4d's metal shaders.
I've gotten closest with raising the temperature and putting the luminance about 3000 cd/ft2, but it's still not great
I think you might be best forgetting about the metal shaders and try for a greyish glow. Don't lower the Emission Temperature below 6000, try different greys in the Emission Color parameter, and try lower Luminance values to make sure you aren't washing out the Emission Color setting.
