Sorry don't call me dumb, but what are the legacy files for?

I always wonder if I have to donwnload and install them or not...

    older versions of DS

    Which older version can vary - sometimes theya re for DS3, sometimes there will be materials for DS 4.8 to accomodate the chnage in one of the SSS parameters (though those won't usually have their own installer), or there may be other points of transition.
