Can not get shadowcatcher to function.

Never had a problem with this before, but for some reason now, with a client anxious for their images, I can't get it to work. Isn't that the way life always seems to work? Haha. Anyway, here's what I've done, and if someone could give me some advice, I'd appreciate it. I figure I'm probably just missing something deceptively simple.
1. Chose the object I wanted to be the shadowcater, selected it both in the scene tab and the surfaces tab, then applied the advance Iray nodes properties script.
2. Enabled the iray matte function for the selected object.
3. Turned the chosen object's visibilty off in the scene tab.
4. No shadow appears.
What am I doing wrong? :(

Which shadwow catcher are you using? The only one I know of is pwCatch ( https://www.daz3d.com/pwcatch ) which is only for 3Delight, not Iray.
@dragonfly_2004
It is a plane with the Matte feature turned on, as I did here.

Okay,thanks. I did't know about that.
Reading this thread actually revealed the problem for me. My shadowcatcher is a flat ground plane under my objects, so it's not going to catch a shadow. Is there any way to catch a shadow on a horizontal surface?
The flat plane does catch the shadow but the light needs to be strong enough to cast onto it. If you look at my images you can just make out the shadow on the seat which is lighter than the shadow on the back of the seat.
Must be 'losing something in transaltion', but surely 'flat ground plane' = 'horizontal surface'?
If the plane is under the objects then do you have Draw Ground on and are the objects on the Ground Plane which is a shadow catcher when Infinite/Finite Dome and Ground are selected?
