Installing anything DAZ (software and content) on a drive OTHER than the C drive

Hey there!

So I have a problem.  I have a computer with two hard drives, one (the "C" drive) is 500 GB.  The other (the "D" drive) is a full Terabyte.  I have an extensive DAZ library which will fit just fine on the D drive.  However, I am unable to install anything on the D drive.

Now, PLEASE READ THIS!!!!

Before anyone starts to tell me to "Go to settings> Installation" and then change the install path, I HAVE ALREADY DONE THAT!  I repeat... I HAVE ALREADY DONE THAT... and yet it continues to install my extensive library... which once again... DOES NOT FIT... on my C drive.

What I REALLY need is a step-by-step instruction that shows me how to fully install, all the software AND libraries, on a drive that is NOT the C drive.  This may come across as a little rude, but you have to realize, after pouring through a bunch of instructions which either left out key instructions or just flat out were designed for different systems, it left me feeling very frustrated.

So... once again... My entire DAZ package is to big to fit on my C drive (the default)... I need to put ANYTHING DAZ related on my D drive, where there is plenty of room for it... and I would LOVE to have clear, simple to understand instructions on how to make this work.

Can you post a screenshot of your Settings > Installation tab?  Note that for software you need to set the 32-bit and 64-bit software fields, and for contrent you need to set the Current path to your new path -- just adding the path doesn't make it the current path.

  • This is where i set up the install path...

  • But  as you can see, there are other things installing on the C drive, which is do NOT want to happen.

    Hi,

Try to check "install to Selected Path" instead of "install to Respective installed Paths".

    I hope it helps.

    Best regards.

But  as you can see, there are other things installing on the C drive, which is do NOT want to happen.

Those are the DIM zips/installers, which you will also have to tell it to download to the D drive separately on the Downloads tab.

Change the setting in the Downloads tab, like I did in the attached image.

  • If you don't even know what those files are, I would suggest setting it to remove packages after installation; you do not need them.

I usually set my downloads to a different drive and periodically back those up. You never know if the store might go bust and you will want to reinstall your content.

I have all my stuff install to a D drive and it's been working fine for going on 2 years now.

  • So now... we move on to THIS problem.  The studio is claiming that none of my items exist.  How do we fix this issue?

In DS you need to use the Content Directory Manager to tell DS where the content is now.

  • I'm fairly certain this isn't correct... anyone know what the correct paths would be?

Use only the path you used in Install Manager (D:/DAZ Studio/Content). This is your only library, so that is all you need, there is no useable content in the other folders. Put the same path in the Poser Format branch, too.

There are three steps to changing the destination. First tell DIM where to download it, then tell it where to install. Now go into Studio and tell it where to find the stuff. This should be the last step.

Thank you all SO MUCH for your help.  Now... I can BUY MORE STUFF!

Glad you got that straightened out. May your library grow to 1TB.

Before you go any further you may want to start over.  By putting everything, software and content, under D:/DAZ Studio you are potentially making it harder for yourself and others to troubleshoot problems that may happen latter.  I would suggest D:/3D/Apps for programs with separate 32 Bit and 64 Bit sub-folders. For content D:/3D/Content/My DAZ 3D Library and use it only for content from DAZ.
