What PC Would You Get if Money Wasn't an Issue?

I'm sure this has come up before but the forum search is a bit rough to find answers so...

If money was no object, what would you get for a PC? Processor, video card, RAM, etc.

I won't have the money to get it all but it would be good to know what the options are. I saw one discussion a while back where someone said to use two video cards which tells me I need to get educated if I want super fast Daz renders.

Thanks

  • I'd get:

    AMD Threadripper 1950X

    128 GB RAM

    3X GTX 1080 Ti

    And watercool everything.

If you render in Iray really the most important thing is you have an NVIDIA card with enough VRAM to fit your scenes.

Dual Xeon E5-4600 processor, with 4 1080ti cards, maxed out RAM.

    Dual Xeon E5 / 256GB / 4 TB SSD / 8 NVIDIA Quadro M6000

You people are all crazy.... why would you only go for Quadro M6000 cards, or GTX 1080 ti cards?

    How about:
    AMD Epyc 7601 (32 core - 64 thread)
    1024GB DDR4 LRDIMM (16x64GB)
    2TB m.2 NVME SSD
    8TB HDD for storage
    1x Nvidia Quadro P6000 24GB GDDR5X for running monitors
2x Nvidia Tesla V100 16GB HBM2 VRAM with NVLink bridge for rendering (10,240 combined GPU cores, and 32GB of pooled VRAM)

Hmmm... money no object? That's a bit of a silly concept. If money is no object then why not render in the "cloud" with access to huge warehouses full of hardware, giving essentially instantaneous renders of any size. Or make your own huge render farm if you prefer privacy.

    Hah... just read this thread.

I'm a simple man with simple tastes. I'd be too tempted to sell what you built. angel

Honestly, because I never even heard of those teslas lol. You would need one hell of a power supply for that system lol

That whole system under full load should come in around 1000W.
Tesla cards are just Nvidia Quadro cards without monitor connectors.
The V100 is using Nvidia's new Volta GPU core, which we should start seeing come out as a consumer GPU early to mid next year.
