Problem opening a Mac .duf project on a PC

edited April 2013 in The Commons

Hi all,

As my Mac projects won't play back more than about 6 frames a second, I thought I would install Daz Studio on my PC laptop, and see if it would perform better.

However, my PC version of Daz is not able to open the Mac .duf files. Does anyone out there have a solution?

I'd really appreciate any help :)

.duf files should be portable - as long as the assets are available. Did you install your content as well as DS on the laptop, and did you use any custom morphs or other modifications in the scene?

In any event, you should be able to render to any frame rate (within reason) that you have the patience for - high frame rates will of course require a lot more rendering and may, depending on quality settings, become impractical. One of the many advantages of rendering to an image sequence, rather than a final animation file, is that you can do the render in chunks as time and other activities permit (and you could even split it across your two machines).

The duf files should open. When you say "won't open", do you mean that the files are not visible or that you get an error message when opening?

And, do you have all content installed on the PC?

Btw, do you have DS 4.5 on your PC and not DS 4.0?
    4.0 cannot open .duf files.

Thanks for getting back with your feedback. I uninstalled everything and kicked DIM off again this morning.

I was running Daz SDK (whatever that is?) and a 64-bit version of Daz 4.0 (not 4.5 like you said) on a PC I suspect to be only suitable for 32-bit.

I'm crap with PC's. I only have one because of Ipi Soft.

So, I managed to navigate back to my previous orders and find 4.5 Pro, and I can now open the projects!...BUT...

I think I'm going to abandon the PC version though because it can't find the Genesis.dsf, and I don't have time to figure that out. I think I'll stick to my Mac version that's installed properly.

As you can see below, I'm already facing a problem, as I haven't got a clue how to fix something on a PC that doesn't work out of the box.

    no genesis

Did you install Genesis Essentials on the PC? But I like the idea to stick with the Mac ;-)

    Hi Totte,

Yes I did, and it was included in the 'Ready To Download' panel in DIM (unlike my copies of Keymate and Graphmate!) but It's still not found.

Presuming DIM is intelligent enough to recognize what platform it's installing to, I simply can't see how the default install locations can mess up at this stage. God forbid any newbie who messes with the instal locations! lol

Hey, but I've got a Troll character available!.....which is extremely useful! ;)

I solved it!!....afterlooking around, 'My Daz Library' ended up in the 'public' version of my documents. It's working, so I'm NOT going to touch anything.

Many thanks Richard and Totte! I can now take my boy to the park, and stop stressing out :)
