When I try to create a D-Former on a clothing item in DAZ Studio, I get: "This action requires an item within the scene, with geometry, to be selected." Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Does the object show as selected in the Scene tab?

Thanks fixmypcmike!! Yes, I use the scene tab to select the "body part", e.g. Abdomen in a shirt. That's the way I have always done it.

it won't work in on anything TriAx weight mapped unless the base figure is selected, such as Genesis or any wearbles (clothing or hair) for Genesis.

Thanks wancow!! Is DAZ going to fix that?

Fix what? It's not broken. That's the way it is when it's a single mesh as opposed to a series of parts.

If it's not broken, will DAZ enhance D-Formers so they can "be added" to the body parts we want them to affect?

You just move them to the part you wish to effect. Still works fine for me.

yah, I'm with Jaderail on this. It's designed to go over the whole mesh, you just position and size it where you want it.... if you want more functionality, you can send a request to DAZ...

The difficulty here is that it's a perceived changed in functionality because people don't think expect TriAx to behave this way because they see the rigging.

I understand the issue. Swapping from multi node to single node items did seem odd at first.

It's just a matter of getting used to it. I'd rather have the deform operate the way it does rather than have to add... though I'd love for it to have more functionality, like being able to affect multiple figures at once... (like wearables)

How do I request my proposed "enhancement"? I think it would make things a bit more convenient and easier for those of us who are used to applying D-Formers to body parts. They could even have a whole mesh/selected body part option.

It's still going to affect the whole mesh regardless. It's a single mesh. that's the way TriAx works. That's not going to change. What you might get is the dform coming in scaled to the affected weight map of that bone... but if you know anything about figure setup in D|S, you'll know that this is probably going to be very difficult to implement. Weight maps can be very spread out and do not need object or face groups associated with them... I honestly don't see how this can be done without changing how the figures work, and that is not going to change.

It seems to me that the only part of the mesh that should be affected is defined by the D-Former's Zone. I'll give it a try.

100% correct, And the FULL deformer can be moved.

Yes, moving the D-Former, Base, and Zone to the desired area does work. However, it would be nice to create a D-Former "centered" on a selected Face Group, Surface, or Region. Maybe that could be added to the "Polygon Group Editor" or something similar?
