My Final Verdict on DIM
I've been working for about a week, trying to organize my DAZ Stuff. I've been doing this for 17 years, and I remain pretty much lost. I started reorganizing stuff, and was surprised to find old DAZ installers going back to the 1990s. I tried organizing everything for a manual install. I got lost in the sheer amount of stuff I'd collect in the past 17 years. Then I hit the final solution, DIM!
I've been working for hours, I drag all my DIM files into a folder called DAZ Originals. This is the easiest way I can think of to get rid of scores of duplicate files. I'm also deleting any non-DIM install files. That includes any stuff I bought from other sites over the years. That's not much of a loss because the vast majority of my purchases are from DAZ. So far I have freed up 500GB on my hard drive!
Here's my final verdict on DIM. DIM is the best utility I know that will easily install your content. I just get lost in the way that DAZ scatters stuff all over. I'll let you know my final solution later.

Good luck RonI I hope I never have to resort to using DIM, guess I'll deal with it if it ever arises.
happy turkey day!
Yah I tried DIM once or twice. I found that even though I could tell it where to place the files, I still had to go through and manually move things around. Sticking with Manual Install.
Keep in mind it's really a large collection of PA's, and many don't categorize the same.
Found the light with categories yet? I remember your earlier thread, and thought of it with a few items that fall into multiple categories. Like a jacket that is a costume or part of one. What directory to put it in? Let DIM worry about it, and place in both categories! :)I have thousands of files gathered together. In previous years I copies many of the original files over to DVDs. Then I got a larger hard drive and copied to files to my computer. I have so many collections, and way too many duplicates. I spent several days trying to organize stuff and manually install. My wrists were getting sore. I kept losing my place and starting over. Then came my brilliant strategy:
Everything either goes into the DAZ Install folder (to be installed with DIM), or it goes into trash. If the file is a duplicate, it ends up in trash. I will not go back to Smart Content and categories. Once everything is installed with DIM, I will copy that installation with a new name. Then I will rearrange the new collection so I can find the "facing" files. I'll leave all the other files untouched.
Thanks, friends. for your support. Happy Thanksgiving.
