SickleYield has an excellent tutorial that can be used to get G8F hair to work on G3F without losing the hair bones, which means that the morphs for the hair will still work. Normally, the hair morphs will only work if fitted to G8F. And you can't just parent it either without fitting it... the hair morphs still won't work.

I successfully "fitted" the Vertido ponytail to a Growing Up G3 figure with a bit of scaling and transforming. Do not actually "fit to" the hair. The process should work with any long hair containing bones.

The tute if for clothing but works the same with hair.

NOTE - There is no need to repose the G3 figure into the G8 pose, skip that bit. And in DS10 you'll need to use the EDIT menu to access the sub menus, rather than the little bars.

  • You can fit hair (and anything that is head and torso only) by just editing the scene identification and changing the preferred base from G8F to G3F or vice versa.

How do you do that? I wasn't aware of that function, but it sounds nifty!

  • Load a hair, select it in the scene tab, and from the scene tab dropdown menu do Edit>Scene Identification and change preferred base. It works between G3 and G8 because their head and torso rigging and geometry are the same, so you just need to tell Studio "yes, this hair fits this figure already, stop trying to autofit it."
