Look at my hair --genesis figures clunky

SO, you know how when you shape a genesis figure its all blocky and polygonal until you release the slider and then it gets all smoothed and sub-d looking? When I apply Look at my Hair, the figure reverts to its blockiness and stays that way.
Am I missing a step? is this necessary for the use of LAMH?

I believe the read-me advises to set resolution level to Base before going in LAMH, which will do that to your figure. On my 32 bits computer I can't render the high res version, so I can't really check it, but did you go in Parameters->Mesh Resolution and re-enable subdivision (and/or set Sudivision level to 1?) after you have exported the hair?
