Need help with DS4.5 Pro and Genesis base missing!
Dear fellow DS users,
Today I have decided to rather install my DS 4.5 version as I couldn't load Wendy's lovely clothing for Genesis onto the character. She has done this for the 4.5 version it seems.
But just after I had installed DS 4.5 and putting in the serial, it can't get "Genesis", stating the file doesn't exist. I also did install the Genesis starter essential kit, immediately after I had installed DS4.5.
If you look at the screenshot you will see what is says in the menu box.
Then also, I am suppose to have DS4.5 Pro installed, I even used the serial which worked for this version (see serial nr also inserted to the screenshot at bottom). But it open it as DS4.5 standard only as you will notice on the screenshot. Why is this?
I am busy with a render where I want to add Genesis to but I have Genesis to work properly. In DS4.0 Genesis was included but now I have no idea what happened to the base although the other parts are appearing from the essentials kit. :(
Any help will be much appreciated! :)
Kind regards,
Laura

Wendy's clothing is made in DS 4.0 as far as I know, so if it wasn't working before upgrading there mush have been some other issue - which may be related to at least some of your current problems.
I have removed your screenshot as you should not show your serial number to others. Assuming the isntaller was the Pro version, and not the direct download (the one without going through your account page) the serial number should work - try going to Help>Register DAZ Studio and enter the serial number again.
How did you install Starter Essentials? If you used the DAZ Install Manager that has a different default path from DS itself. Also if you chose a different path when installing DS I think it would remember the old path for thes tart up scene, which would of course be missing.
Hi Richard,
Thank you for your response. I am not very clued up when it comes to installing and paths and also using DS, especially the 4 version. I used to work with the versions up to 3 more but just have to learn this version also. It could be that I had install the starter kit wrongly.
I have just seen in the forum that there is an upgrade to the version I have for DS4.5 Pro and downloading that now.
Thank you for removing the screenshot as I did not think straight when putting the serial nr therein, sorry for my stupidity! :(
Have a nice day!
Laura
Before I have installed DS4.5 Pro yesterday for 1st time I had DS4 installed where Genesis worked quite well and automatically open in start-up.
I had a copy of DazStudio_4.5.0.114_win32.exe and installed that yesterday together with a copy of 14812_GenesisStartEssentials_1.3_trx.exe (both these I have downloaded October 2012 as it was the files available then at that stage).
Yesterday I mentioned that in the forum that Genesis doesn't appear in the start-up of DS screen with a message that the start-up file doesn't exist.
Yesterday later, I then downloaded the newer version of DS4.5 which is now available but trying to download the GenesisStarterEssentials (1.11_trx) version but I have difficulty to get it to download as my speed is totally slow and it states it will took about 5 and half hours. If I can maintain the download it will be great but just after my 1st try it stopped at only 10.7 mb! Hopefully the 2nd try will download fully. I assume these 2 files, the new DS4.5 version and this 1.11 of Genesis are related to work together.
My question now is, are the files I have downloaded in October as put in bold above the correct 2 to work together for in case I am going to struggle to get the new version of GenesisStarterEssentials to download? Actually I had installed the 2 files yesterday but Genesis didn't appear at all. I have then took Daz4.5 off completely, re-installed, but Genesis still doesn't appear as in DS4 where it worked.
I am not very clued up with paths and such and if this happens again, how can I add Genesis manually to a sub-folder in the runtime as it says in the opening menu that Genesis start-up doesn't exist? Would it be possible to add the character file manually?
Thanks for all your help as I am now really quite frustrated.
Regards,
Laura
Hello Laura
These are the two files that go together, I have them in my downloads as well, and I downloaded and installed them together.
One of the main differences between DS4 and DS4.5 is the change to the file format for Genesis. In DS4, it loaded a file called Genesis.DSF, but in DS4.5, that file is now called Genesis.DUF (the new file format), The last stable version (non beta) of DS4.5 is 4.5.1.56, and that is the one you should have got.
DS4 cannot open the DUF format, and DS4.5 will look for a file called Genesis.DUF to load. I hope you can get the Genesis Starter Essentials downloaded OK, and when you do, and if there are any more problems, please post again.
There are a couple of possible reasons why DAZ Studio was not able to find Genesis after you had installed it. Perhaps there was an error with the installation, or maybe you installed it to a location that DAZ Studio doesn't recognize. If it's the latter problem, you need to go to the Content Directory Manager and add your install location. Instructions on doing that can be found here: http://wiki.daz3d.com/doku.php/artzone/pub/software/dazcontentconfiguration
If you installed (or end up installing) Genesis Starter Essentials using the DAZ Install Manager, there is another set of instructions that are specifically geared towards that situation: https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/entries/23624648-Adding-Content-installed-by-Install-Manager-to-DAZ-Studio-or-Poser
Hope this works for you, but in case it doesn't, can you tell us the location to which you installed Genesis Starter Essentials?
Merged new thread with the older one on the same topic.

Thanks for your reply. 4 hours ago I have started downloading the latest Genesis Starter Essentials (1.11_trx.exe version). At only 1 hour left, and at 347 mb out of 429 mb, the download just stopped for no reason as internet speed was running at a constant speed all the way and internet connection stable! :blank: I have left it some time (about 20 mins) to see what will happen but it just didn't want to resume even the internet connection still seems fine.
This is happening too many times when I try download quite large files. Luckilly I got the DS4.5 (4.5.1.56) version downloaded successfully yesterday but today not so lucky with the essentials pack. Even Bryce 7 contents I simply can't download due to its very large size and used an older version contents with it which thankfully works.
I have however downloaded the older Genesis Starter Essentials pack last year as mentioned earlier. Would this work on the new DS4.5 (4.5.1.56) version too? Otherwise I just don't know which is so frustrating.
Laura
You could try the older Genesis Starter Essentials to see if it will work, it may not. It should still contain a Genesis.DUF file, but there may be other errors pertaining to Duplicate ID's, but they don;t stop the items from loading.
Give it a try anyway, and see what happens. Just make sure that you install to the correct path, and that the path ends with the My Library folder if that is what you are using.
Hi there, thank you for all your help and advice. I can now do the Happy Dance! After 2 hours the file was still lying in my downloads not resuming and I was doing something else on my computer, I have decided to let it go but then I try to re-download instead and a miracle happened! All of a sudden the same file start downloading at 100kb per sec than the normal 25-30 kb per sec and I got the file in 1 and half hours time, than the 1st attempt of 5 hours! My internet never could download this fast! :-)
Now its bed time!
Laura
Great news!
Tomorrow is another day, hope it all goes well for you, bes wishes.
