Shaders mysteriously not working.

seems like none of my shaders are working? No matter which one I choose tender seems to be the default shader. I always select character and items in th surface tab then double click shader. Am I applying it wrong? Could t be a compatibility issue? Working with Genesis/Freak 5/Mr. Hyde, Michael 3 and Michael 7, not in the same scene, just trying to get shadersvworking with same results, or lack of results on all those models.

Selecting the object in the Scene pane and then selecting one or more surfaces in the Surfaces pane and double clicking the shader thumbnail is the correct way to do it. Some shaders don't show up in the viewport the same way they render. Have you tried rendering to see if the shader really was applied? Can you be more specific about what shader you are trying to apply and what shader is already on the surface you are trying to apply it to? Maybe we can spot a problem.

  • Yes, I’m trying to use the toonz shaders and when I render they don’t seem to be applied to the render at all.

Ah.... Which of the toons shaders, specifically? They usually need a specific camera through which you need to render them. Some are made for a specific generation, like Genesis 2, and won't work on Genesis 1.

  • OOooooh ok, I was referring to all of them lol I tried all of them. I wondered if it was a generation thing. I'll do a bit more research and experimenting.

Ah, yes... that might be a good idea. Unless they have specifically "Iray" labelled, they are most likely for 3Delight rendering, and the 3Delight toon shaders pretty much all need the special camera thing.
