DS 4.5 Pro: I really miss using deep shadow maps in my renders. They add so much! Is this issue being worked on? I have been trying to recreate the shadow map effect and I just haven't been able to get the same results.

What effect are you aiming for? I assume the issue you mean the spurious coloured blocks in renders using DSMs? It seemed less frequent, at least, in the last beta though I did get one oddity that might have been due to it.

Yes, I am referring to the colored blocks. I haven't installed the newest beta that appeared here yesterday (May 9th) so I don't know if that's the version you are referring to. One shadow map on a strategically placed light will fill in places I want heavily shadowed. For example, I have a scene where there is a large tree against a brick wall. When using raytraced sunlight, I will get very unnatural shadows coming through the tree. I would prefer it to just be all shadowed under the tree...and under bushes and dense plants. When I add that show map on one light, I get what I want, but then I also get the little colored pixel squares.

Actually, I was thinking of last week's beta. Have you tried using the Shadow Softness setting for ray-traced lights? The downside is that it will slow you down, but ti may work at least for now if the issue remains with depth-mapped shadows.

I actually prefer soft shadows, so yes. I think I will install the new Beta tonight and report here what I find.

Nope, installed the new beta and rendered my image. The same colorful artifacs appeared in the same places. So sad... :(

Did you try ray-traced shadows with the softness turned up a bit?

I had said above that ray traced with soft shadows is my preference. Thanks anyway, though.

Sorry, I wasn't sure if you were talking of ray traced or depth mapped shadows there.
