So I'd say no, don't retire it -- no matter how much nicer the new pup is, somebody's project may need a touch of Garoul.

Exactly my thoughts. Because, as we all know, there's a perfect match out there for everybody... and it would be a real shame to deprive someone of the chance to find the Garoul of his dreams.

They do look different, and since the new one presumably uses LaMH the older may be more useful to Poser users via DSON, even if they need to rebuild the material settings.

    this.

    this.

There are no plans for updating the old one to use dson.
The new one however has dson files and can be used without the hair (until we get a poser version of lamh)

You sound pretty determined to give Garoul a silver bullet

Maybe just change product description to advise it's an older Genesis shape etc and let customers decide for themselves. Mind you, some of the other premier artists will withdraw earlier products if they feel they no longer match their current standard of quality... decisions decisions

Why not improve the older one with new morphs and maps and add in a fur option as well. Offer an "upgrade" price for folks that already have purchased your first. Sell both for variety. Have a bundle called "Wolf Pack"

The new one is the improvement ;)
I was originally just going to upgrade the old one...but there were so many things i could improve on it, that I went and made a whole new one.
Sometimes patching an old one just doesnt give the quality of starting over.
I have some older sets that I am doing updates for.

Ah, gotcha. Well with all the morphs for Genesis I'm sure folks can EASILY make their Wolffies look as different as they want! :P

"I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand,
Walking through the streets of Soho in the rain,
He was looking for a place called Lee Ho Fooks,
Gonna get a big dish of beef Chow Mein..."

I've had that darn Warren Zevon song stuck in my head ever since first starting to read this thread. I tried to exorcise it by a quick render mixxing Garoul, Man-wolf and a few other morphs and pieces... but it didn't work. May have to pull out the Howling again...

    Good song choice.
I had "Bad moon rising" by CCR going through my head all the time while i was making the new guy.

Richard's suggestion of "Wolf Pack" seems good. You could even create one or two texture-maps for the 50-50 Kickair combo, to capitalize on the diversity of wolf Pack. Glad to see you're putting away the silver bullets. I haven't gotten them yet, as I was reluctant getting any genesis-content at the time. But things changes, so I'm on the side of getting the Wolf Pack. I have MS Lycan and Night World Lycanthropos, and I think there's strength in having several to choose from, and/or mix-and-match.

I would have to vote for keeping Garoul. I like the figure. And besides, the ASPCA takes a dim view of people abandoning animals.

About the new figure: will it have a separate head morph? I find that kind of thing really useful for getting more mileage out of my morphs.

My only problem with BMR is that it's hopelessly tied to American Werewolf in my mind, and that was never my favorite lycanthrope design. Good film, fantastic transformation sequence, but the final wolf was too much wolf and not enough man-monster. It would have been perfect for the Wolfen, which came out at the same time, but a four legged werewolf just doesn't have the same kind of impact that something that's human height does. (On the other hand, Moondance, also used in AAWIL, brings up all kinds of nice Jenny Agutter images, so that's just fine. ;) )

To me, the definitive werewolf design is still the full scale bunraku puppet version that the Shank brothers built for Joe Dante's the Howling. (Those are the ones that they used anytime a full on werewolf physically interacted with someone in the film, versus the stop motion versions and the stove-necked suits by Rob Bottin.) And Garoul is actually quite similar to that, though the Shank's version had a more lupine head and a LOT more teeth, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with the new version. Becausue, frankly, I can never have too many werewolf designs in my runtime. :)

having both versions provides an opportunity to render a transformation sequence, you could go from human so say Vargr, to Garoul, to the new Wolf

I am cool with all types of werewolves. They can be cool on all fours as well as bipedal. Wolfen was alot of fun. I havnt seen that one for years. I just saw AWWIL again last week, and yeah Jenny is easy to watch for sure.
Another fun, but little known were flick that I like is "Ginger Snaps". I believe it is Canadian made, so I dont know how far around the world it got. I personally liked the sequel better than the first.

Perhaps the reason I make so many werewolves is because I like so many different looks.
The new one is loosely based on the Underworld were's

The genesis figure is great for making transformations easy :)

No it wont have a separate head morph.
When you are making characters you have to make all the pieces work together, and the only way to do that is to morph them together as one.
When people try to make them separately, the pieces rarely look like they belong together, and I would not put that kind of products out.
Maybe one day d/s will be able to selectively choose individual body parts and dial morphs out of them if you dont want them. but so far that is not an option

FYI, I always blend my figures, I rarely use 100% pure anything. Garoul has been useful in my werewolf mixed mutts, and it certainly adds diversity to my gene pool of creatures. It is useful even for non-werewolf creatures! A dash of cat head and then some Garoul... or maybe hill giant head and Garoul...
