Rigging Issue V4 Clothing

Alright. Before I start, I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone who has helped me in regards to rigging clothing for V4. The various hints and tutorials I've been pointed to have been extremely useful.

However, while I have been successful in rigging V4 clothing, I've run into another problem. The clothing is rigged, but whenever I move one of the given joints, the entire article of clothing is affected.

I've included two images to illustrate the problem. The first one has V4 at the zeroed out pose. The second has V4 moving her right collar back.

Any idea what the problem is? As well as how to fix it?

  • How is the model grouped? if you hide the right collar of the clothing what disappears?

  • I didn't do anything to change the grouping of the V4 model, if that's what you mean. I even positioned the joints so that they were zeroed instead of their default positions. And the outfit is grouped to match V4. As for what happens when I hide the right collar, nothing happens. Hiding any one piece of the costume doesn't affect the rest.

It's like...every time I move one joint, the entire piece of clothing is hinged on that one joint, ignoring the rest of the figure.

Also, I apologize for note noticing that I failed to include the images I mentioned in my previous post. I know I definitely upload the attachments, but forgot to include them in the post proper. My apologies.

  • Poser clothing relies on grouping, which effects visibility. If hiding bones doesn't hide the matching area of mesh then the setting up is not correct.

  • Oh. Well, you see, hiding the bone does hide the corresponding piece of the mesh. What I meant was that nothing else happens. Sorry for the confusion.

  • How did you create the clothing figure (in DS, not the geometry)? Please post a screenshot of the Scene pane with the outfit selected and all the bones expanded.

  • I rigged the clothing using the technique described in this discussion. https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/11785/rigging-new-clothes-for-v4

And sure. Here's a shot with the outfit and the bones expanded.

  • Well, the hierarchy looks OK so I'm really not sure what the issue could be.

  • I really don't get it either. It's like the bones of the costume always bend in response to the joint being manipulated instead of following their own respective bones.

Argh...I wish there was some kind of rigging template for Generation 4 clothing creation that would make this simpler...

  • Well, theer is - presumably you used it, taking the base Victoria 4 into the Figure Setup pane and then replacing its geometry with yours and removing unneeded bones.

  • Hello, I was just wondering since V4 and M4 are my favorite Characters and I want to create clothes for them too. I noticed that in your hierarchy that you have the right and left forearms. are they even needed for the top if it doesn't go that far down the arms? I need to know this too because the daz helpline said the transfer utility doesn't work with generation people, only genesis and I'm pretty bummed about that and I can't find any good video's that go step by step with rigging clothes.
