OT - Oh, Dilemmas!!

OK...

I need a little advice from anyone who knows about pc specs and stuff. I just figured out my old and trusty pc won't do some of the things I want to do... like use OpenCL for dforce. I have an AMD processor and an old ATI Video card. So... I went to look at getting a new video card, but realised that the cost is pretty close to getting a whole new computer...

So... I was looking at a few online and was comparing software prices, etc.

OK... So, here's my dilemma. I currently use Photoshop CS5 to do all of my image editing. The "new" Photoshop is some kind of monthly subscription thing I don't want to have anything to do with, but everything I'm reading says older versions of Photoshop don't play well with Windows 10... sigh.

What's the best solution that won't cost me thousands of dollars? I could just get a new video card, I guess... but, that feels like a temporary solution. I am not ready to give up Photoshop or sign up for monthly fees... sad What should I do?

  • According to these, if you run the setup in compatibility mode, you should be fine (don't know personally, I haven't tested it) though Premiere doesn't look like it will work.

I use PS CS5 on Win 10 x64bit all the time and have never had any issues - don't remember setting it as a compatibilty mode or anything when I installed it.

I used crusty CS2 on Win 10, it worked but the pointer was wonky.

I also upgraded to a new system more or less.  Treated myself to the new Photoshop, you can get it for $10/month barebones.  Glad I did, I like it more than the CS2 version, even though they did away with Variations.

I don't know. The idea of needing a monthly subscription makes me nervous! My life is a bit sketchy lately...

    (Heads up: Getting personal now...)

I used to live in Canada with my husband. Then my husaband passed away. I cried for like 2 yrs, but eventually began dating someone else. It didn't work out and I came back to the States a couple of years ago... with basically nothing. I have been pretty much everywhere since then. Bouncing around from State to State, from New Mexico to Michigan, trying to find stable work and a life! It's been CRAZY! Hoping now I can catch my breath, but my life is just too unstable to rely on any "Cloud". LOL
