OT Xbox and TV questions

I am thinking of upgrading my enterainment system with my tax refund.   I am thinking of getting a new TV and an Xbox.  I want an Xbox as it is a blueray player plus a game system and has access to microsoft movies and TV.  I want to get a new TV for various reasons.  Debating on getting a smart TV or just a UHD TV since the Xbox should be able to play UHD videos.  Are there smart TVs that are also UHD?

What do I need to keep in mind other than budget?  Would it be better to get an Xbox bundle or just the Xbox and get games later? What is a good TV that will work with the Xbox?

Well.... nearly all UHD TVs are Smart TVs. I would guess about 98%.

Everything depends on how much money you would like to "invest".

However ... i would strongly suggest you buy a XBOX One X, not the normal Version or the S Version. The new X is much more powerfull and many games that are released yet will look way better on it. In addition its more future safe.

Buy a bundle if you like the game ... buy a standalone if there are no bundles avaiable that fit your taste (so easy)

To get the max enjoyment out of your tv you should pay atention that your new TV supports (besides 4k/UHD resolution) 10Bit HDR. Optimal results you will get on an OLED TV from LG (leading in OLED) or a OLED modell from Sony.

Regarding smart tv functionality you will get the most for your $ when you buy a tv model with Android TV. This is because of the huge offer of apps that is avaiable here.

One could easily talk for hours about what the best TV could be .... the truth is, that there is no 100% right or wrong on this. I would suggest you visit a trusty dealer and look for yourself. Keep in mind that all those tvs there will run in demo mode (oversaturated colors for a WOW effect). So, ask if somebody can turn this off. Thats the only way you get a realistic "feel" for how the image will look when the tv is standing in your livingroom.

Btw ... the Xbox costs (depending on where you live) 400-500$. A good 55" Tv costs at least 1000$ -1500$ and above.

Hopfefully i could help you a littlebit :-D

Don't you have a computer? LOL. I have a Playstation 4 and a 64 inch OLED65C7P TV and never really use either. I have 2 27 inch LG monitors on my PC and watch 90% of my movies and TV on them and also do my gaming with my PC

However ... i would strongly suggest you buy a XBOX One X, not the normal Version or the S Version. The new X is much more powerfull and many games that are released yet will look way better on it. In addition its more future safe.

Agreed. Unless you are getting the XBOX One X, you don't need a 4K tv since the XBOX One S does not play games in 4K. Bluray yes, but not games.

I'd also recommend gettting an xbox one x with at least 1T Hard Drive. You tend to collect a lot of games if you have Gold and pick up all the "free" games with gold not to mention those you're buying.  Sure, you can delete games as needed and if desired install them again from your account later or game disc but it's less time consuming to be able to keep more games on your system instead of constantly weeding out games to make room for games,  game-add on's, game play, and game point/achievement save space.  (You will seriously be sorry if you go the cheap route and get a 500GB system.)

Edit: If you went for the cheaper smaller hard drive, you could add a portal external hard drive to add space but  that's probably going to cost the same as that larger xbox one hard drive....so might as well do it in one device. Personally, I'm thinking of clearing one of my external hard drives and using it to add storage space to the 1T xbox one I currently own.

  • On bundles, you should consider if you want the games included. If you look around, you'll probably find several different bundles. Really price out every piece you think you want because it just might be cheaper to buy the pieces you want.

If you plan on using a headset with mike, plan on buying one.  The headset  we got with our X Box One was uncomfortable, and did not last long. We  have been through several controllers  so get at least two of those.
