Lights driving me nuts!

Whenever I render it's coming out pretty dim.

is there a basic setting I may be missing?

Render tab - Tonemapping - Exposure value (turn it down)

Either that or add a 0 or two the the lumens in the lights. I tend to have to add at least 2 zeros to each of mine.

  • I find using multiple lights to be effective along with increasing Watts or Lumens as TheKD suggested. I personally have never had success with a single light source, either turn out too dim or just crappy. That is assuming your using iRay.

  • A few suggestions

    Physical lights:

Up the Lumens, with default render settings you'll probably want to start at 25000 and go up from there.

    Decrease distance from  subject.

Change Type, switch from point or spot to distant.

for spot lights change the geometry and the height and width, you also may want to turn on two sided.

    Emissive lights.

    Switch from cd/m^2 to Kcd/m^2

see physical lights for other suggestions.

    IBL(HDR environment lighting)

    Increase environment intensity

    Render settings>Tone Mapping

Decrease any of the following or all

    Exposure value

    Shutter speed

    f/stop

  • Many thanks for all your help folks much appreciated smiley
