Suddenly unable to pose a figure by clicking on various body parts

Something happened to a G3M figure I've been working on. A mere hour ago, I had no trouble posing him in the usual way--click on this or that, make adjustments, etc.--and now only his head and lower abdomen can be activated by a mouse click. Every other body part de-selects the entire figure, which means I would have to slog my way through the entire bone tree to adjust, say, his right middle finger.
Once again I'm mystified, scratching my head & wondering what went wrong & how to cure it. I could rebuild the bloke, though it would take some time, but I'd like to avoid this in the future, if possible.
Thanks in advance!

What selection mode are you in?
If you look in the Scene pane do the bones have a tick or a cross on the arrow icon (indicating selectability)? If they have crosses, rather than going through clicking them all back on one-by-one select them all, then use the Selectable button in the Parameters pane.
This was happening in 'edit' mode. I could still apply preset poses, but found I could only pose the lower torso and head.
Damn. I rebuilt the figure and replaced the unresponsive guy with the new one, so I can't tell you whether the other bones were 'X'ed or ticked. But I will know what to look for if this ever happens again, and now I have a lead on how to cure it.
Thanks a bunch!
One way to quickly fix this is:
1. go to Parameters pane - click the options menu - check that Consolidate Properties is on
2. in Scen pane select the figure root node (most upper main body node) - right-click and choose Select Children
3. go to Parameters pane Property Group: Display > Scene View - and click on the Property "Selectable" maybe it shows the caption "Multible" (means some are on some are off) click it once or twice until it says On
With Consolidate Properties the number of selected nodes is showen in parenthesis in front of the Property. This is the number of children nodes that have the same Property (Name) available - in this case the number of bones selected - careful also parented items eg. conformed figures like 'fitted' clothes get selected with select children - maybe unparent - but not necessarily unfit them before - or you select the hip first and then choose select children.
The Properties there in this Property Group: Display > Scene View are a repersentation of the Scene pane symbols on the nodes / bone hirarchie list view in the row where it says "V|S|Node" on top V: Visible | S: Selectable.
Just wanted to make this clear so its easier to fix next time. To avoid further issues with this you can also click on the lock symbol to have it Locked. Now you cant change that Property "Selectable" eighter in the Parameters or the Scene pane anymore (works also with the Visible Property).
Thanks, Syrus_Dante.
