what are differences between GN3 and Victoria 7

How do the differences work with a simple Genesis 3F character and one that's for Victoria 7? I look around and see that a GN3 character but is for Victoria 7 which has me confused because aren't they basically the same thing? being anything GN3 would be 7. For a character that is meant for V7 wouldn't that mean that would be for just Genesis 3??? what would happen if I was to use a Victoria 7 female model on just a GN3F figure would it not work or something? someone please help me out on this confusion.

    I've not heard it called "GN3" - I guess you mean G3?

Victoria 7 is a Genesis 3 Female morph and texture. She has her own UV separate from the base Genesis 3 Female.

If a product says "for Victoria 7" it usually requires Victoria 7. In the case of characters is usually means that it requires the Victoria 7 morph and in some cases the Victoria 7 UV.

The morph can look much different from what you bought and the texture may not be aligned properly but it should still 'work', she'll just look a lot different from what you purchased.

Also, you won't be able to load the figure simply by clicking the preset in your figures section, you'll have to load a G3 based, then dial in the morph using the shaping tools.

You'll then have to go the materials for that character and apply them to the G3 base.

If you have enough morph packs, you can still create a nice character from any skin if you like it.

I have "From Russia for Rune 7", but I didn't have Rune 7.
The icons for "From Russia" show in my Smart Content,
when I click on them they load fine, but with the G3F base
instead of the missing Rune 7.
They look slightly different from the product illustrations,
but they still look good, with no problems with the textures.

Now I have Rune 7, and they load with it. I can still use them
with the base G3F using Content Library.

Oh it does load on G3 base? Sorry I never tried it, so thought you'd have to do it manually! That's good then :)

Yeah, I have several characters that are for Daz figures that I don't own, and it loads the characters fine (just doesn't load the morph from the figure that the character is "for"). Sometimes the characters look nice even without the character it's "for", but other times they just look BAD without the other character's morph. lol It's pretty hit and miss.

The eternal confusion of the Daz3D world is their model hierarchy, especially when they did over 20 base models with the Genesis 2 series, and even more with Genesis 3.

Even people who have been here a long time may not know the required base figure is not absolute. But how much the models depend on that 'base' to achieve their look varies wildly. Sometimes it is barely even noticeable, and other times the model is horrifying without their base morphs.

It is not unusual for models to have forum posts showing what they look like without their required shapes. If you use the unofficial Daz browser add on by ati, that can add related forum posts about products to the product store page. This is such a valuable tool. Without having to search the forums or anything you can quickly check out a number of posts about the product right from the store page. And like I said, may of the models (especially in Pro Bundles) will have people posting renders of them without the base. This will let you decide if the product is what you want or not.
