Need Help Before I Buy

I am a little confused about using Gen 3 and Gen 4 items for Genesis. I know in most cases the program will fit Gen 4 stuff and so far has done a pretty good job. I have been tired a lot lately and a bit slow on the uptake so the simplest explanations would be appreciated.

What I need to know is what do I need to get the morphs from Gen 3 & 4 characters to work on Genesis and what do I need to get Gen 3 clothing to work on Genesis?

I see products in the store but not sure which to get and hopefully keep my costs down. I also kept hearing things about needing the maps from Gen 3 series for their textures to work?

You need the Gen 3 Genesis shapes to get the Auto fit clones for them.
You need the Gen X generation 3 figure add on's to transfer morphs to Genesis.
Only Gen X or a very long work around can transfer morphs from Gen 4 or Gen 3's to genesis.

It isn't very long workout, just step-by-step methodical :p

Okay, then. Much more involved than just using Gen X. Really helps if you have a good understanding of how morphs work as well? :cheese:

Gen 3 skins won´t work on Genesis, only Gen 4 skins do work on Genesis.

To transfer Gen 3 & 4 character morphs to Genesis you will need Gen X and the respective add-ons by the same vendor. Also you will need these products:
V4 and M4 shapes for Genesis
Gen 4 Iconic Shapes for Genesis
Gen 3 Iconic Shapes for Genesis

So for just V4 alone I need four different products plus more products if I want to use Gen 3 clothing. Not to mention I noticed when trying an M4 texture on Genesis I had problems with seams.

That's alot of buying and no guarantee things will work.

For V4 clothing and textures you need nothing, for M4 clothing and textures you need nothing, for K4 clothing and textures you need nothing. All of this is built into DS4.5, To use a M4 or K4 texture you need to go to Surfaces and change the UV from V4 (default) to M4 or K4 and then LOCK it. For clothing the Auto fit will auto run for all Conforming clothing and will also run for all non-conforming clothing when you do a Fit to the Genesis figure. For Gen3 Clothing all you need is the Gen3 Genesis Shapes but at this time DS does not support Gen3 textures for genesis. For Transferring morphs from V4 to Genesis you do need V4, the moprhs you wish to transfer and the Genesis Shape for V4 and then Gen X. That applies to all figures. The base the morphs, the genesis version and Gen X, and the Gen X loader.

I've heard of people using Texture Converter 2 to convert Gen3 textures to Genesis. Not sure how well it works, though.

Genesis textures include a parameter for each surface to set the UV map. Older Gen4 (V4, M4, etc.) textures don't have this parameter since it didn't exist before Genesis, so you have to do the setting manually after applying the texture.

If you can be patient, then wait for deep discounts. DAZ occasionally offers DO (DAZ Original) products at 70% off.

What workaround? I've never heard of any workaround to load gen4 morphs to genesis.

Jaderail...I found on surfaces how to switch the uv maps and when I applied the M4 textures I no longer had seam problems, thank you for explaining it to me.

As to morphs, due to how many products I need to make them work, I think I can live without them...lol I do have the Genesis Head and Body morphs bundle, as well as the morph packages from RamWorks and SickleYeild, so I think that gives me plenty of characters and options to create for now. I will keep my eye's open for the deep discounts mentioned, when I have money.

Thank you everyone for your help.
