And how do I convert this, too?

There's a .lwo file here and I don't know what to do with it.
How do I convert the mt6 files to work with Studio?

It comes in Both formats. You do not need to do anything except Copy the Runtime folder and all it's content and then Merge it into your runtime folder.

so that lwo is a studio file?

    Nothing.
The .lwo file is supplied by the artist, for those of us who work with software called Lightwave 3D.
(But don't throw it away yet.)
The .obj file (from the Wavefront modelling program) is the one you can import into DAZ.

Can't help you with the .mt6 files; I just scanned my PC and there is not a single .mt6 file on my entire machine; it is a Poser specific file.
However I did fild 540 .mt5 files, they seem to work.

What I normally do is use Poseray https://sites.google.com/site/poseray/ to convert a lwo file into an obj one.
The resulting files (obj & textures) I put in a separate folder and not within the DAZ folder structure.

Actually, if you have texture files in a conversion, I find it's best to put the folder containing everything into the /Runtime/Textures/ folder and import the object from there. This way, if you save the object in D|S, all texture pointers in the scene file that's created will point to a folder D|S already recognises as a content location. This can help prevent other problems/complications later on.

No it's not a Studio file.
In this case you downloaded a file that contains more than one formats: .lwo & .obj
You use the .obj to import into Studio. (you probably have to scale it to fit in your scene)
But maybe next time you donwload something that contains only .3ds or .lwo, than you use a program to convert it to .obj (& a material file called .mtl)

MC6 files are material files for Poser. My understanding was that DS could read MC6

Yes Daz can read MC6, as I found out recently while setting up a scene. Although it was my understanding that lwo can be read by Daz, even though I could never get the program to do so.

AFAIK .lwo can only be used in lightwave. .obj, even when made in Lightwave, can be read by most programs when imported, as long as they have the suffix .obj

Bryce can read lwo files to if I am not mistaken but it is hit and miss.

yeah, hit and miss is never enough for me, I would rather keep thiniking "no can do" and not even try.

tjeb, thanks for the tip on PoseRay, I have about a zillion 3ds files and never knew what to do with them.

I don't have this lightwave, so after I convert it in PoseRay I can just trash the lwo, right?

Yes, after checking if the, into obj converted file(s) import fine in DAZ, there's no need to keep the lwo and/or 3ds files.
    A few remarks:

    - I've never used 'Poser Scene' & 'DAZ Studio Scene' no idea what they are good for. (pic 1)
    - When you want more material zones in one of the objects in your scene (not just the object you've just converted, but in general) you can try what I show in pic 2.
    - If you change the filename in the output, you have to put the .obj extention to the filename, else DAZ cannot find it. (pic 3)
    - don't forget that the converted objects are not rigged; the Lamborghini was converted from an lwo, I rotated the door in Hexagon to make it more interesting.

    Ok, is this normal?
I converted a file from .3DS to .obj, and as you said, it lost (or possibly never had) any rigging (I'm going to experiment with that in Carrara), but also, It has no skin. I guess they are textures, I'm still trying to figure the ins and outs of this, but the folder for the original object (a radio) had a few .jpg files for the faceplate, the outer cabinet, the dials, etc... but the obj has none of these, and when I import it to Studio, it is just a gray object.
    Is that supposed to happen?
If so, how do I attach textures?
    If not, what went wrong?

I am just installing the new Studio, so when I get it up, I'll screen shot some examples.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.
I tried to duplicate your problem and came up with a workflow.
I Googled on 'radio+3d model' and found a old fifties radio. 3ds & textures. (first pic)
In Poseray the model shows only two material zones. (second pic)
I chose the second material, clicked 'Tools' then 'Groups -> Materials' (third pic) BTW I dont know the difference between the first line and the second line.
At this point you can decide to apply textures to the model (fourth pic) or leave it as it is, export to .obj and apply textures in the DAZ surface tab.
Anyway, with a bit of effort, you can come up with something shown in the last image.

Well, I'm getting strange results, but , at least, they're different. I'll give it another go tomorrow. I think I know what I did wrong. Thanks for the info thus far, though. You guys have been a big help. But for now, my PC is acting up some more so I think I need to run some diagnostics tonight. I'll get back at you soon. Thanks again.

Ok. I've been doing some playing around, and I have a bump or two I need help with.

    1. I can't seem to be able to get the textures to come out right or the size from PoseRay into DAZ. Note the pictures below. See the ground plane? The object stays with the camera, it never lands on the scene.

    2. What do I do if an obj comes without maps. I downloaded the ship form the net, but when I went through PoseRay there were no maps to be found, and it said the obj didn't use maps (or something to that effect, I forgot to screen it).

    3. (Mattymanx) Can Carrara do the same thing as PoseRay, or is PoseRay required? I ask because I was following your tutorial 3D Model Conversio2 and I noticed while I was improting and exporting, that the .lwo, .obj, .3ds, and a plethora of others are all excepted by Carrara.

Also, in reference to that tutorial: On page 10, you mention exporting the individual pieces or groups, which went fine, but then importing them back... Do I close the doc first or do I import into the stuff that's already there? And If I close 1st, how do I import the 1st piece back in, because with no open document, the only option available is 'open'. I was a bit confused.

This is a retry of the radio after rechecking settings. It still comes out blue and giant and nondetachable from the camera.

Ummm, Richard, I'm really not trying to bump, but I think my post got lost over the weekend...I'm just hoping to get a reply from the guys who were helping me... Please don't shoot me.

So, um, tjeb, Mattymanx, you guys have any other things for me on this? I am trying to find out more, but as I have said in more than one thread, when it comes to searching on my own for info, I am the World's Worst search engine operator and you guys seem to have a handle on this stuff.

I appreciate all and anything you can do.
