Can't apply shaders

When I try to apply a shader, I get this message, "An error occurred when reading the file, see the log file for more details." Problem is, when I attempt to open the log file, notebook opens but nothing appears on the page, just the twirling busy circle, and the log file never opens. What can I do? Can this be fixed?

Maybe your log ifile s too big for notepad????

Hold down the Ctrl key when you click on the menu command for opening the log file. That will open a Window showing you the folder that the log file is in. Locat the log file in that folder and open it with another application that can read text files.

Thank you. I was able to open the log file thanks to your instructions. A huge file, endlessly long, here's what it said on top:

Successfully created OpenGL viewport for AuxViewportView.
WARNING: QFile::flush: No file engine. Is IODevice open?
WARNING: QLayout: Cannot add null widget to QGridLayout/

    Compiling OpenGL Shader...

    Linking Shader:

I don't know what to make of this, should I send a support ticket?

  • Did you have the item and surfaces on the item you wanted to apply the shader to selected? Shader presets need both.

I had the item selected, but not the surface. When I selected the surface, it worked no problem. I've been using DS for a few years now and never ran into that problem before. Thanks for the solution.
