    Thought id throw this in here:
    Bg starfield done in bryce 6.3 and modified in photoshop.
    Nebulae is a apophysis fractal render heavily smudged in photoshop.
    Planet is a default sphere with spherical fog and with a free nasa venus planet texture modified
    in the shader room of c7.
    Final render in carrara7 standard

    @A3DLover: Nice job on the space scene.


    @gotwalt: Are you using a shadow catcher for your composited scenes? If not, it might help you integrate the added 3D elements to the background plate.


    For anybody that's interested and might not know, the shadow catcher is a shader function. To create a shadow catcher, go to the shader room, select Create Master Shader from the Edit menu. Then when the shader window comes up, select the Lighting Models pulldown menu and select the shadow catcher. You can select a couple options from there. When it's set up, apply it to whatever object you want.


    The shadow catcher will appear invisible, but it will mask any objects behind it, it doesn't catch reflections, it can be tricky to use with Global illumination and the color in the color channel seems to have an effect on the hue of the shadows. You can use it with alphas for later compositing, or you can use an image or whatever in the scene background or backdrop as well.

    Just playing around with an old Stonemason set :)

    I needed a new desktop background, lol.

    *Added some trees and lowered the resolution for the sake of render time.

    Koukotsu, how did you do the lighting in that? It’s very nice.

    It's very simple actually, just a sunlight+realistic sky, 45% white ambient light, and "ambient occlusion only" ticked in the global illumination settings with an occlusion radius of 18inches. (I almost always use the "small" scene scale)

    Then, I used Photoshop to stack the image in 2 layers, blurred the top layer around 8.5%, changed it's blend mode from the layer style options to "screen" and dropped the opacity of that blurred layer to 50%. It's like adding a cheesy little bloom layer, lol.

    I did increase the brightness quite a bit for both layers to give it a more sunny look.

    Nice, I particularly enjoy that dim/evening looking atmosphere.

    Wow things have really slowed down around here :blank:

    I always intend to create more purposeful, meaningful renders, but I end up rendering Aiko standing there just doing nothing in particular, lol.

    I'll probably save this character and import her into a larger scene that attempts to tell a bit of a "story" eventually, but who knows :coolsmirk:

    So that's who that is! Been a long time since I saw "Legend". Excellent work, as usual.

    Robert Picardo is the actor who played Mucklebones. He also played the alien Wak in one of my favorite movies, "Explorers".

    Stu, you should think about doing Wak. That is, if you can find any decent full body reference photos.

    Just a little "fully clothed Aiko with a sword" render I did today ;-)

    I must have used 10 different layers total, just goofing around, lol.

    Really nice, Kouko! It's just me, but I would have turned the blade toward the camera a bit more to show it off, but that's just my personal taste. Great pic.

    Here's a character I've been playing with for a couple of weeks. She's going to be a character in a short movie I plan to do in the near future. (Did a little postwork, which is something I don't usually do.)

    Nice Elven archer, she looks quite fierce! She would send my sword-wielding school girl running for the hills most likely, lol.

    Oh, and your personal tastes must be better than mine because now that you've mentioned it the angle of that Katana is driving me crazy!

    I followed Kodiak's advice and adjusted the angle of Mulberry's Katana a bit, I believe it looks much better this way. I'm thinking of trying a more aggressive, less relaxed/casual expression and pose next time around, lol.

    I agree that the angle is better for the sword. For a more aggressive stance, there are 4 poses in my freebie pack here - http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/10844/ - that were originally made with swords so you can build off one of those if you like.

    Just ambient occlusion. no lights. Isometric camera.
