Recommended books on related theory?

I am not a 3D graphic artist by trade or practice (I am a software developer, but please don’t hold that against me). I have, however, become totally obsessed with DAZ Studio; to the point that I sit at work thinking about what I’m going to do in the Studio when I get home. Having said, that, I have no formal or informal training in this art form. Can anyone recommend a good foundation book? I see things like texture, morph, SSS, and really have no idea as to the theory behind these things. Even things like lighting, natural posing, etc.
So, if anyone can recommend some good texts that will give me the foundation I really should have to progress, I would greatly appreciate it!
thanks
David

I don't know how relevant it is in the days of PBR but Digital Lighting and Rendering by Jeremy Birn was always the go-to book in the past.
Have a look here while you wait.

Somebody might have some information on this book as I don't own it.

This is probably still the best book for non-application specific information on rendering in 3D.
Thank you gentlemen, very much appreciated!
Have a safe and happy New Year.
