So I am unfamiliar with adding effects after a render has been done. I have some injury effects I wanted to add to a male body from my render I did in Daz 3 )not daz 4 not that it really makes any difference) but I don't really know how to open the brushes I got. I have my render which I saved in jpeg open in paint. How do I load each brush effect? what is the general procedure please? there does not seem to be any instructions with what I got also.
Thx.

They're probably PhotoShop .abr format brushes, so they probably don't open in MS Paint (is that what you mean by Paint?). You need the GIMP, PhotoShop, or another program that can use .abr files. When you install them following the instructions you can then load them from the program's brush dialogue.
Yes I have gimp also. I still don't know how to open these brushes. What is the general procedure please.

You need to install them to Program Files/GIMP 2/share/gimp/2.0/brushes (not Program Files/GIMP 2 if you installed GIMP somewhere else). If you installed them somewhere else, cut and paste them into this folder. Then start up the GIMP. They will appear in the brushes dialogue when you hit P to bring up the Paint tool. You may need to refresh the dialogue by clicking the little paintbrush at the bottom, then then the little circling arrows at the bottom of that.

Thx all but the Q I have now is although I can add the brushes to my renders through gimp how do I actually add the colors of the brushes?! they are ALL black and white?!?! also do PSP image files work in gimp? I have some here but I don't think they work in gimp as I added them to the gimp brushes folder but they don't show up :(

What's PSP?
PSP = PaintShop Pro
I'm not familiar. The GIMP can open a huge number of file formats, though, so unless it's proprietary I would expect it can.
If you need to pass between them and aren't sure save from PSP as .tiff or .psd for layers.
K great now the little box on the bottom right has disapeared where I deal with the brushes. How can I get it back please?
Which little box? Are you in brush mode?

Yeh it doesn't matter there still no other options even when the pic is open I don't understand this as the other boxes were there when I was messing around with gimp earlier.

Ok. Go to Tools--Toolbox and see if that brings it back, then Windows--Dockable Dialogs--Tool Options.

K I gottit now thanks. Can you or anyone tell me how to actually add the colors and edit the size of these brushes please?
Not if you're not willing to look at the links I already put up, no.
There are lots and lots of tutorials on how to do this, on google and on YouTube.
K so I got the color figured out. Can anyone tell me how to resize these things please?
There's a slider under the brush selection that says "size."
