Question about converting clothing using sy tutorial

Okay I admit to being somewhat confused.

1. Where is the bone editor. I don't see anything that looks like a bone.blush

2. Initially Gen 8 male is posed in t-pose because I'm instructed  to. Later in the tutorial we are told that the clothing needs to be posed to match the figure. So.... Is the Genesis 3 clothing to be in A pose or T-pose when I save it?

Thanks for answering my questions.

Hi, I assume you are referring to ths tutorial on DeviantArt.

    1) The tool she is referring to is the Joint Editor. I believe it is on the Tools tool bar. It looks like a bone with a pencil across it.

    2) The clothing will be in the T pose, like you have posed the Genesis 8 figure, when you save it.

Edit: Whoa - wait a minute. She's modified that tutorial since I last used it. I'm not sure about question 2 now.

The tutorial now says "Before you perform the transfer step, pose the clothing to match the target figure (arms down for G8, arms up for G3) and click the Bone Editor."

It doesn't says how to pose the arms of the clothing. We've already changed the pose of G8 to the T pose to match G3, so what does it mean to pose the clothing to match the target figure (arms down for G8). Boy, I can see your confusion!

    @SickleYield, we need help.

Pose the clothing to match the target figure.

Select the Joint Editor tool (I don't know how to get this in the bar, for me I pull it from Tool Settings window).

Right click in window, Edit>Bake Joint Rotations.

Select first the target figure, then the clothes, right click in window, Edit>Transfer Rigging (Figure Space).

Then change Scene Identification to the target figure and save as a new clothing.

There's something weird in the tutorial where it implies you should pose the clothes to match the figure and the figure to match the original clothes. You shouldn't actually do this.

Pose it to match the target figure as it is at default or as it is in T-pose?

@barbult: thanks for attempting to help me. =-) I admit that phrase throws me for a loop as I am confused which thing to do.

@Agent Unawares: thanks for referring me to the link. Now if I can just get things figured out.... I'm nearly there. =-)

As I understand it, you pose the clothes to match the default pose of the target figure. Since the clothes haven't yet been fitted to the figure at that stage, you can select the shoulder bend bone and change the angle to +/-45 degrees, and select the thigh bend and change it to +/- 6 degrees.

  • Pose it to match the target figure as it is at default or as it is in T-pose?

As it is at default. The idea is to line the clothing up so that when the figure is at zero pose, the clothing fits it exactly, because what you are doing is effectively making a new base model for the clothes that fits the new figure.
