That's an impressive render, I really like it!

You don't notice her at first, but it changes the image once you do.

I wonder if you made the overal render darker and then added a glow to the fairy and lightened the center of the image and darkened the edges if it wouldn't draw the eye more toward the fairy.  Make the head and upper chest the "center".  I don't know, just kind of thinking out loud.  I love the idea of this, its a super cool story.

    @Noswen, Thank you!

@IceDragonArt, I was in a hurry to get this done for the challenge. But there's nothing to prevent me from doing some postwork.
    laugh

That background, by the way, was rendered separately. For some reason, (probably the hair on both figures,) rendering the warrior and the pendant was relatively slow; Around 750 iterations per hour, where a typical image will render somewhere in the 2500 to 3500 per hour range. The background by itself rendered in under an hour.

    And thanks,
    heart

Love the statues and the faerie/warrior render. I would be disappointed too if the resulting section wasn't a large focal point. I've done that before, where I worked really hard on something (posing) and then due to the camera angle, it was wasted time. But with the faerie you just couldn't help it, and she is delightful :)

There's an image I've been working on, off and on, for a couple of weeks where I created a mob of torch/club/pitchfork toting characters. It wasn't working, so I deleted them all from the scene. It's a large scene, so I created the mob in a separate file. I'm holding onto it. I may need an angry mob sometime in the future. One never knows!

I think it's obvious looking at the final image that it wasn't rendered like that in Daz Studio.

Here are some of the images I rendered while refining the details

One of the early lighting tests for the younger couple. (I've added a background.)

    Early Lighting Test

The old man's hair didn't turn out quite like I wanted it to, so I "fixed" it in Photoshop. Here is the before, (left,) and after, (right)

    Before Postwork After Postwork

Here's the Main image before postwork, (other than the gray hair.) Notice the photos on the top of the piano. There is also a set of keys, and a tangerine!  After several decades of marriage, you'd think he would know better. Perhaps the dancing is to distract her.

    Primarylayer01

I knew the image was going to be portrait orientation, but I didn't know just how much of the scene I'd need on either side of the couple, so I rendered it wide to make sure I had room to play with.

Here's the same image with areas cropped off darkened.

    Primarylayer02

I really liked the mirror and reflection, but it just didn't work out. I was sorry to see it go.

In the final image, there are four image layers, (not including my signature.) From bottom to top they are: a layer of solid black, the younger couple, the older couple and the room, and finally, the Bokeh background renders. Adjustment layers create higher contrast, and layer masks blend the image layers together.

While I was trying to come up with a name for the finished image, the lyrics from an old song started playing in my head. I could hear the singer's voice clearly in my head, but at the end of the refrain, I kept "hearing" making whoopie, and I knew it was wrong. It was also about 4 in the morning and I was just heading to bed. When I woke up, the right word had found it's way into my head. Reminiscing!

Anyway, I found a decent video of  The Little River Band performing their hit, Reminiscing. I like it much better than the music video I also found.

This video should start right after the enthusiastic introduction by a member of REO Speedwagon, (Kevin Cronin, I think.)

I'm still working on our annual holiday card, but I entered a variation in the PC Render Contest. I think I did. When I opened the gallery page to edit, my computer showed it was exactly Daz Midnight. As it's not really a "winning" image, (imo,) I doubt if Jack will toss it out on a technicality.

Anyway, the cottage had a lot of bits that weren't in the camera, so I turned visibility off on those. But the roof, and especially the snow on the roof, covered front and back. As I used the Iray Snow, Ice and Ash product on all the snow in the scene, I was concerned about the processing power on the roof snow that was not visible. I needed to speed up the render to meet the deadline. Here are some viewport shots showing what I left visible:

An overview from the front, left side:

    Overhead view of the set

What's left of the thatched roof after I hid polys with the Geometry Editor:

Zoom, Showing most of the thatch roof polys gone

And now the cottage with the snow covering the missing roof in the front, and hidden in the back

A closer view, with the snow back on the roof

And finally, a view of the scene from the back.

An overhead shot from one side of the back of the scene

I originally started with Santa's Cottage, but the textures are very toon-like. Cute, but not quite the look I was going for. So I substituted the textures from the original Fairytale Collection -- Cottage for the front of the building and the thatched roof. I applied the same snow shader to all the snow props from the cottage set, the plane I added in front, and the snow pile I added from the Iray snow product the shader is from. (Excellent product. If you don't have it, I highly recommend it, along with the similar products from KA, Iray Rain and Iray Storm.)

Well, I finally got the image done for this year's Christmas cards. Aside from the dance pose, the final image has very little in common with the first image. Here's the image I entered into the contest:

    Christmas Morning

    Christmas Morning, by L'Adair

And here's the image I created for the cards. (These are physical cards, so the image has to be printable on white card stock.)

Actually, both images are Christmas morning, after Santa has completed the delivery run for Christmas Eve. Have you ever wondered what he does when he gets home? Go into hibernation for a couple of months? Or start building more toys for the next year? Well, I think he takes a break and enjoys the holiday with his wife. Anyone willing to traverse the earth delivering presents all night long must really love Christmas, right? And even Santa will admit, he couldn't do it all without the loving support of his wife. In the second image, they enjoy a bit of alone time, before the elves descend on the ballroom for a really big, magical party.

  • Very cute!

They are both super cute but I really like the second image. (I love alone time with the significant other, it sometimes feels like there is never enough of it, with how busy life always seems to be)

I suppose it looks like I've been MIA, but I've actually been working on my first entry for the It's Raining Men contest. It's been coming along nicely. Until today. I'm adding supporting cast to the scene and the one old guy is wearing a backpack. I tried the rucksack from the Army unifrom product, but couldn't get it to fit a skinny old man not wearing a jacket. I moved on to Luthbel's WWII uniform for an older backpack. That at least has morphs for no jacket. Still no love for the old skinny guy. So I saved everything and went to bed.

Got up today and brought the backpack into Hexagon, (along with the shirt the old man is wearing as a guide,) and spent almost the entire day making those darned straps fit the character. I was nearly finished when Hexagon had had enough and simply closed on me. Of course I hadn't saved the file. I was only creating a morph after all… (stupid, stupid, stupid!)

    So… How was your day?

Love your talisman render.  Creative and awesome.  Nice work with your Xmas scenes as well.

Oops that hurts! Happens to all of us at least once.

Good thing is now you know how to do it so it should take you less time to redo it hopefully (is there a temp folder for Hex where you might recover some of your work?).

Can't wait to see your entry(ies) to the Raining Men Contest! I liked so much last year's. I may do one too.

@Worlds_Edge, Thank you. I'll have to try a variation where the captured fae is more prominent. Maybe a male next… And there's just something about creating holiday scenes that makes the season feel real. What with all the kids, (and grandkids,) grown and half a continent away, Christmas just isn't the mad, mad, mad world it use to be.

Nope, xmasrose, nary a sign of the file and the work. But I have to admit, it was a blessing in disguise. I've started over, and this time, I only parented the backpack. Now there's none of that "conforming" distortion. And there was so many little tweaks to get the straps where they needed to be and twisted naturally, I ended up learning the keystrokes to switch between the tools, to toggle soft selection, and change whether I was selecting faces, lines or points. All in all, a real learning experience. Not only is the redo going faster, but it looks so much better.

And I'm saving the file frequently. (Perhaps a bit too frequently.)

Well, here are the results of my time in Hexagon: a morph for the backpack. Poses with extreme bends can really mess up conforming clothing and such. First is the backpack fit to the character in a kneeling pose:

    Fit to, Conforming

I don't have any screenshots of the failed attempt, (the one that crashed Hexagon.) I do have a couple of interim screenshots, with the cargo pack hanging off of the main backpack. (An interesting tid bit I read yesterday: each cargo pack carried, among other things, half a tent.)

Original Morph Applied Before Tee Shirt Morph Original Morph Applied, Shirt morph also applied.

The image on the left is the morph applied before the morph for the shirt; The image on the right is the same morph on the backpack with a dForce created morph on the shirt.

And finally, the final morph, which moved the cargo pack into the backpack. Apparently, if the website I visited is correct, the men preferred to forego the extra pack and used a raincoat instead.

    Morph Applied Cargo Pack Inside

After I finished this morph, I used dForce to smoosh the shirt under the strap. While I was at it, I draped the sleeves and softened the folds on the back of the shirt. (I used the timeline and 30 frames. At frame 0, the morph dial was 0, at frame 20, the morph dial was at 100.)

I should also mention, the backpack is from Luthbel's World War II U.S. Uniform HD for G8M

Wow nice job!  I really hate when I lose all my work after a couple of hours.  And I STILL sometimes forget to save.  My husband knows exactly what's happened when I start yelling at my computer screen lol.

    Thank you, @IceDragonArt.

I finally got the scene done and rendered. It's an entry in the It's Raining Men contest I've got to stop doing these large cinematic scenes. They take up so much time. You manage a render a day, with postwork! I'm doing good to get one of these large scenes done in two weeks!

Here's the signed version in the galleries. It's a large image, and best viewed full screen…

    Through the Jungle

    Through the Jungle

And after all that work on the backpack, you can hardly see it. (But I'm pretty sure if I hadn't created the morph, the backpack would "stick out like a sore thumb!")

This is really well done! Worth the effort I would say.

Your scenes are generally a wee bit more complicated than mine.  I would love to have a bit more time to put some things together.  I almost never have time to do personal art anymore.

    Something a little different

    Valor

    Valor, by L'Adair

Not only is it a toon, but I rendered in 3Delight. I was trying to use ToonyCam Pro, but some things didn't work right in the 4.11 beta. I ended up rendering the lines on white, and layering the lines and the image together in Photoshop. My efforts to create a background of blue paint-strokes didn't turn out so well, and I ended up creating clouds with a couple of brushes from Ron's Steam.

Hubby and I are going to celebrate Christmas Day with a trip to the movies. I got busy and forgot to buy tickets last week, so we ended up with tickets to an evening, 3D showing of Aquaman. It should be awesome.

I hope all of you have (or had) an awesome holiday, whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or the Winter Solstice. Have a wonderful day, week, and end of the year. And may 2019 bring you nothing but happiness, good health, and plenty of time for your 3D art!

    Hugz to one and all.

    Thank you, @Worlds_Edge.

    Thank you, @IceDragonArt.

Aquaman was long, but in a good way. They didn't leave out anything important just to hit some arbitrary time limit. The special effects were great, and nothing felt like it was there just because they could do it, I won't give anything away, but I was pleased with the direction the storyline went and the occasional funny line. I will say one thing, (and if you've seen the movie you'll know exactly what I mean,) "Ow."

I really loved the whole movie, but my favorite spot was at the end, before the credits, when they gave us a virtual tour of the 3D set. The camera moved through and around static 3D objects, many things in pristine condition which wasn't how we saw them in the movie. It was like moving around our own scenes in Daz Studio, Iray preview mode on, but on steroids… And then some! Just a real "wow" moment for me.
