DAZ Studio export to OBJ as multiple objects

edited December 1969 in The Commons

I want to export a Genesis model from DAZ Studio in .obj format. The problem I have is that DAZ exports the model as a single obj. so when I open it in another program the individual items cannot be animated separately. In Poser it is possible to export only selected items in an .obj file. I cannot find the same functionality in DAZ Studio Pro 4.5. Does anyone know if what I ask is possible and if so, how to to do it?

Thanks in advance.

    a) Hide everything but the object you want to export. Export obj. Repeat this step with other objects. You'll get separate obj which can be imported one after the other in the target application.

    b) Check in the export options "Write groups". It depends on the import options of the target application which sub-option will give you separate models in the obj group.

edit: if you want to export a single Genesis model and have the body parts moveable without applying a new bone skeleton in the target application try FBX.

Thank you for your response. I turned off the visibility of the items in the Scene tab and yet it still exported the entire mesh. Is that what you meant by hiding or am I missing something somewhere else?

Did you check in the export options "Ignore invisible bones"?

This should work with separate models and also with a single Genesis mesh (just tested with Studio 4.5).

Thanks for the responses. The "Write To Groups" was checked but it appears I needed to select "Use Existing Groups". I had been using "Use Node Names".
