Daz GoZ De-Activates my copy of ZBrush

Hello all,

This is not the first time, so I was wondering if I am the only one. Sometimes, using the Daz GoZ plugin, it de-activates my copy of ZBrush. then I have to have it manually de-activated so that I can then re-activate it. It happens to me any time I forget to start ZBrush up before I activate the plugin. In other words, if the Daz GoZ plugin starts up ZBrush itself I am greeted with a prompt to activate ZBrush. This behavior is not exactly ideal. Also makes me feel like an idiot when I have to enter the reason for the de-activation request with Pixologic. :/

If someone else is experiencing this I'd like to know I'm not alone here, If someone knows how to fix this issue that would be even better. I don't think it's too mush to ask that when I use the Daz GoZ plugin I don't risk de-activating ZBrush.

In case you are wondering, I'm running Windows 8 Pro x64 in case that makes a difference... perhaps the behavior is OS specific. When I talked to Pixologic about it. Their tech support informed me that they couldn't support the Daz GoZ plugin since it is third party, and basically told me to discontinue using the plugin to avoid the problem. I have to believe that there is a better solution than that, and that the behavior can be corrected.

If not I suppose I will have to just export and import everything manually, to avoid accidentally starting the plugin before I've started up ZBrush.

    You are not alone.

I also went trough that. Basically each time a new DS 4.0 update was released GoZ stopped working and I also had it happen that ZBrush was deactivated.

And yes I also felt like an idiot having to write the pros at Zbrush how I ended up using all my activations just by reinstalling GoZ for DS. :red:

Nevertheless the last time I had this issue was with the update from Zbrush 4.4 to 4.5.

Since the release of Zbrush 4.5 and the smaller DS4.5 updates I did not anymore have trouble after I did a complete reinstallation and manually deleted some files that may have caused trouble.

Or to put it different I did not anymore have any trouble after I upgraded from win 7 to win 8 and completly reinstalled my pc with zbrush 4.5 and ds 4.5.

The possible cause of the issue

It seems there were many different issues going on.

As far as I remember the problem was with some information being saved in the folder

    C:\Users\Public\Pixologic

In one of the past zbrush versions (4.3 or 4.4 or 4.5) a change was introduced where some GoZ information was stored.

By just updating Zbrush from one version to the next the same old location was used and old files replaced with new ones.

The only way to really update all files to the new proper GoZ location was to completly remove all the old files and references so that the new locations were used.

The different locations for GoZ seem also to have lead to some problems with the GoZ from DAZ.

From my point of view the main reason for the issues was that GoZ kept reinstalling at the old location if not all old files were deleted manually.

Many different zbrush users reported different kind of issues with GoZ. The issues reported seemed to vary depending on the way zbrush was updated.

Some issues seem also to have been introduced by using stacked installers from zbrush 4.1 to 4.2 to 4.3 to 4.4 that were mere patches that overwrote some information while others was kept.
Therefore it seems very important to get a new single installer for zbrush 4.5 and really remove any old zbrush and GoZ files on the system.

How exactly installing GoZ for DS then ended up deactivating zbrush is lost somewhere in all this.

I just put together that some files in the wrong place end up triggering some unwanted effect.

Guess there is no other way to fix the issue than to actually move forward and past those versions that were not compatible with each other:

    Steps to prevent the issue

    - Download a single installer for zbrush 4.5
    - Download latest version of DS 4.6.0.18
    - Download the latest version of GoZ for DAZ Studio 1.3.0.8

    - Uninstall DS
    - Uninstall GoZ for DS
    - deactive zbrush
    - Uninstall zbrush
    - manually delete all remaining files in C:\Users\Public\Pixologic

    - Optional: use a software like CCleaner to remove unused references and clean the registry
(Update /Edit: Thank you Natasevol for confirming that this step can be skipped)

    - reinstall zbrush
    - activate zbrush
    - reinstall DS
    - reinstall GoZ for DS

    - - -

Again the main idea of this workflow is to remove any old files that may cause conflicts.

Hope this works for you as well!

    Update / Edit:

Added some additonal steps and rearanged them in a more logical order

This workflow was originaly done on a windows 7 64 bit system.
I did a complete reinstallation again on a windows 8 64 bit system.

I have no clue how it works on mac or on any older windows versions.

    Update / Edit:

Removed original post and created a new thread with GoZ feature requests in order not to go off topic on this one:

Even though I believe that I might have posted a working solution there might still be follow up questions.

    Thank you.

Work perfectly, without CCleaner step and only with DS 4.6 installer.
