Optimization

Since tax time is around the corner, I was thinking of using this year's return to get a proper laptop. What I need help with, is I want to get one geared specifically toward running Daz3D as well as possible. So far I've only had off the shelf rigs and Daz will run on it, but as I'm sure you know, rendering is a complete CPU hog. To run Daz3D in a timely fashion and have it able to generate good quality renders, what would I need? Bare in mind I'm not a computer wiz, I don't know much past the basics. I know Daz is optimzed to work with Nvidia, so what else? Also it will have to be a laptop for me as a drive for a living and I'm constantly on the move.

CPU: Minimum speed and number of cores?

RAM: How much?

Graphics card specs: No idea here.

Etc: Whatever else I may not have a clue about.

Post Work: I would also appreciate suggestions for post work programs to help me improve render quality as well. I think I heard something about Octane or such some time ago. Plug-ins, whatever else. I want to work toward being able to do renders that really pop out.

    Same as for a desktop.

GPU: Most CUDA Cores and Vram you can afford.

CPU Ram: most you can afford. (I suggest 16MB MINIMUM)

Everything else doesn't matter that much for DS

This is sort of my list for a practical laptop that will keep it's utility upto a decade so keep these in mind:

    a) I would try & get a laptop that allows you to upgrade the discrete video card irrespective of video card brand name

    b) A laptop that supports 32GB or more RAM

    c) display port, 4K HDMI

    d) 14" or larger display FHD upto 4K, certainly not smaller than FHD on a new laptop (will be tiny though - change the font sizes then)

    e) 100% SSD storage (adds much cost - espcially storing DAZ & other 3D modeling products)

    f) Wifi / Bluetooth (I've not seen a laptop without these in a long time but many new system boards & desktops are perplexingly lacking)

    g) Less crucial because the system boards usually are made obsolete with the best future CPU designs - upgradable CPU

And what is must likely to throw a wrench into the gears of that list: If all these advancements in super fast storage tech used as streaming RAM for video cards and CPUs really do become entry-level consumer technology a laptop without that technology isn't really good tech for 10 years.
