Texture time consuming setttings

Another question from me regarding rendering times (sorry!). I'm curious as to which texture/shader settings take up the most time (for example an object with lots of reflections would - I think - slow down a render, so I tend to set them to zero unless needed) ?

The number and size of texture maps is probably the biggest factor.

So, what's the solution? Any advice on how to speed things up is appreciated.

EDIT: just a thought, it seems some of my renders are taking a long time due to the settings on more advanced models (such as gen 3 for example). Is there a way of loading gen 3 models without any textures/shader settings so they're just grey like genesis 1 when its loaded?

Load Genesis, click on a skin area with the Surface Selection Tool, File>Save as>Shader preset.

Load Genesis 3 whichever, open the Surfaces pane and click on the figure name, then double-click the preset you just saved. File>Save As>Character preset and use that to load the figure in future.

Worked like a charm. Thanks Richard, your knowledge has yet again come to the rescue! I don't know how you know all this stuff!
