Using poser libraries in Daz Studio

Coming back to DS after some time. I seem to remember that back then DS could access my poser libraries and use that content. Is this still possible and if so how?

Also does anyone know if the DS to Maya addon works well. Want to use that to get figures into my Maya scenes. Dont have much in the way of DS content and am now out of work so cant be buying anything. Thus would like to access my poser stuff in DS and send to Maya.

If I may add another question. I have tried in a previous version to just export V4 as a mesh and import in Maya but it was too unweildy to use. Are the G8, G3 etc better...rigged and useable, do the textures come in ok?

Thx

  • If you installed Poser content via Daz Install Manager, your Poser content will be accessible in the Content Library pane, under the Poser Formats listing.

If not, and it was all installed using the manual installers, you can either copy/move your Poser>Runtime folder into the Daz Content folder, or you can right-click on the tab of the Content Library pane (where it says "content library") and selectContent Directory Manager. From there, you can manually add your Poser Runtime folder to the list, and after it gets done searching, those will be available under the aforementioned Poser Formats listing in the Content Library pane.

cool, thank you. That was eaxctly what I needed to know. By chance have you experience with using the V/M4s in maya or the newer generations? I suppose I could just try exporting G8 from ds and importing to maya to see, but thanks.

  • I don't have Maya. I bought 3D Studio Max a couple of years ago, which apparently no one suppoprts anymore. I guess Maya is the new darling of the torrent sites.

Could be, I was lucky to grab a student version of maya off amazon right before they went to subscription. Max has always been the standard for technical work. Lots of folks who do say architectural stuff use it, you can get precise measurement easily. I chose maya because I was entering animation school and that was what they used. I.m learning environmental modelling and dont feel that figures of the quality I can create will be acceptable. Whereas the figures from poser and daz in midrange will be fine. Unfortunately am out of work so dont need to be buying content, and why id like to use the content I have, mainly V4 and M4 stuff. The textures arent important except having the hair is nice, can texture the rest myself. I've actually gotten G3 to come in to maya with clothes and hair intact. V4 will come in as well but the UVs are problematic and the hair and eyebrows dont come in. So I guess its keep trying with V4 nd figure out the parts that dont work. Thanks
