transfer utility content type actor is missing

edited May 2013 in The Commons

Hi everyone, I just saw this wonderful tut http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUFvv4Nmtvwand @ 17:50 he demonstrates the content type settings; but my transfer utility content type actor is missing: In fact there is nothing there it says (none) I've got the 4.5 and the 4.6 version installed, and all with the same problem.
Can somebody help me please, what am I doing wrong?
Thx in advance.
Sam the Noobian

PS, my OS is wn7 with both the 32/64bit of DS 4.5/4.6

    Do you have CMS running?

  • edited December 1969

Yep, I've got it running, and Bejaymac suggested that it was the firewall, I removed the fire wall and restarted Ds, and lo and behold
it says (connecting to the CMS) but that was about an hour ago, I guess it hung up on me now, I restarted my PC, but again the same result""

Well if everything is working, one needs to put a check mark in the Content Type box, then the drop down arrow beside the word "none" will be activated. Actor is near the top of the list.

    @Patience55,
Yep I've been there, done that, but still no go.
As I said, on my laptop Ds hangs when I run the CMS, on my desktop the CMS
works, but the content type directory is still empty. I select Fit to source and Content type
but it still doesn't work. Should I manually place the necessary files in the content type directory??
Or should I reinstall again, with certain steps?
I use to have poser, and older versions of Ds on those machines, so maybe I should clean up the Hard-drive before
    installing again???

    thx in advance

    That's not possible.
Which has me wondering if we're on the same page.

If item #2 doesn't have anything in the drop down list, if CMS is working, then yes AFAIK you'd have to reinstall the program because something is wrong.

    @Patience 55
Ok I reinstalled the 4.6v several times with the same result. At last I reinstalled the 4.5v and it is working now. I found the actor
option to transfer the rig. but when I delete the source actor, the target actor looses the rig again.
So I guess I'm overlooking something again?

    Thx in advance

Well, I'm not an expert at creating figures but when I made one with V3's mesh ... first I transferred over the rigging from Genesis calling my new V3 some type of clothing item > "bodysuit" "tight" [to get the bones].

Then when I saved my new V3, that's when I called it an "actor" and it works fine [well, as good as can be expected considering the 4 minutes of work].

For making one's own figures, I'd recommend the tutorial sold in the store http://www.daz3d.com/rigging-original-figures-in-ds4-pro

Then at least, with one's own mesh, one would have a figure one could share or sell.

Step one I fitted the two characters precisely in to each other, and then I leave them together, Then I choose the source to be Genesis/default, then I choose my own mesh to be the target default,
Projection template I leave at none. I press show option to expand the menu and choose content type to be actor. I press accept and the rigging is done. I do an animation test with both actors still in each other and everything animates all right, but then when I delete the source figure, the target figure becomes useless again???

thx for the tip. I do have that tutorial but it doesn't cover the transfer utility autorig posibillity.

Well it could be you know, that the autorig is for making clothing, not new figures ;-)

And no the tutorial doesn't cover making clothing so it's not covering the transfer utility ... my thinking was that if you're using the transfer utility as a leg-up to start a rigging mesh, the tutorial might help you figure out how to fix it to work.

On the other hand, you could try using the transfer utility like I did and see what happens. I was using 4.5.

Hi Patience55, this is the tutorial that demonstrates the auto rigging:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUFvv4Nmtvw&lchecked;_word">lch=email_reply&feature=em-comment_reply_received&lc=fX_nqJviYoic0bZ-6D12t9GFnrkeYYs_4SbRX5s-giQ

So the transfer-utility is not only for making cloths, there is an actor option for rigging, as is demonstrated in this tutorial.
So this is the transfer utility feature that I'm exploring.
    thx

I'm sure that's a nice tutorial. It is also a very long tutorial and my little laptop isn't a good HD streamer [though it should be, don't know why it isn't ... could be the AV wants to watch it first with my luck] anyhow ... I can't 'see' the settings in there on the low defn film ... however yes there is the 'actor' setting ... and I'm sure it might be for something like creating characters of Genesis. I did notice that he was very particular about how to create the mesh to be very much like Genesis'. Bones would have to match with where the mesh is for eg.

The other item that comes to mind is whether 'what was left' when you deleted Genesis, the 'new mesh figure' as it had been imported, bones transferred to it ... or did you also have it 'saved'. Even for clothing to work correctly, after we save it, we delete the work and re-load the saved item before conforming and posing it, etc.

p.s. Glad you found your actor file option ;-)
