IRAY renders turn out black
I am having trouble with my IRAY Renders. Every time I try to render, it comes out so dark it is as if I have no lights at all. I can see the characters if I add extra spotlights and turn them up extremely bright, but everything else is dark. I have turned up the distant light to 500% intensity, and still just get dim outlines of charaters. I have tried with headlight on, off, and auto, and I have tried with environment lights/map on and off, and still I get mostly dark scenes. I have no trouble with 3Delight, but switching to IRAY with same scene and it just blacks out. I think this all started with the latest upgrade. Is there something I need to do diffeently with daz 4.10? Any ideas??

Do you have a skydome in the scene? If yes, delete it. Skydomes are for 3dl, and block all the light in iray. Also, make sure that all the lights you use have photometrics set to on, and use the lumiance value. 3DL lights and Iray don't play together nicely.
if you could post a screenshot of your render settings, that would be helpful. The settings work all the same in 4.10.
Thanks for the input. That definitely helps. One of my renders was in a skydome, so I will work on that. The other was inside a library, so I just have to figure that one out. I am not sure how to tell the difference between Iray lights and 3d lights I guess?? If you add a light from the menu (i.e. distant light or spotlight) is that 3D or Iray? Will work on the skydome scene and see if I can get it to render.
Turn your Exposure Value in Tone Mapping way down. Try 9-10 for an indoor scene.
Freshly loaded spotlights are usually set to Iray mode, but they have a light strength of 1500c/ft which is emulating normal lights.... but the render settings that agent unawares references to are set for outdoor bright daylight. So, the same thing happens as when you set your camera for a sunny day shooting, and then go into a closed room and use the same setting - your image gets dark.
You can tell the difference between a 3DL and Iray light by checking the setting "photometric light". If that setting is set to "off" it is a 3DL light. If it is set to "on" it is an Iray light.
Check out this thread to get a few basic ideas on the lights (it's several posts covering several topics): https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/1536281/#Comment_1536281
So far, by incorporating ALL of the suggestions, it has helped immensly. I still have some practicing to do, but at least I can see my characters. Thanks for your help.
