Hi everybody.

I'm using Carrara 8 from about 1 year and now I'm creating a sci-fi movie with it.

I would like to share my progress with the community, so this is my latest video:

Hope you enjoy!

Yes, nice use of (Carrara?) particles. I use Particle Illusion (2D overlay FX) , but the 3D particles can be more convincing in some cases.

Yes, I use Carrara metaball particles (also because I'm not good with 2D  ).

So if you liked the particles in that video, I think you will also like this small test:

I need to work more on some effects, but I think that they're nice :-)

Yes, impressive, Carrara has powerful particles. I am probably prejudiced because I enter the annual 48 Hour Film contest, where "time is of the essence". Particle Illusion's 2D effects render in essentially real time (sometimes faster?!?!), and with the use of "blockers" (essentially masks that can prevent the effect in designated areas) can give the illusion of 3D. But its all good.

Fun stuff. Were the particles around the 4:00 mark done with Carrara? I use Particle Illusion for 2D particle effects, but yours look more true 3D.

Yes, all done with Carrara particles. The particles are spheres with the built-in 3D Aura filter applied to enhance the glow effect, I've made some trials before reach this solution, glad you like it!

The parts between 1:48-2:47 were made in Daz Studio 3 (except the writing) with the Particle FX plugin, it was before i decided to buy Carrara and were my very first models and animation.

Are you still using DAZ Studio in addition to Carrara? I'm very biased toward Carrara, it is ideal for creating short animations with Poser content. I tried DS a while back and got frustrated, but maybe it'll get better ... :ohh:

No, only Carrara and Hexagon. All models are created in Hexagon and rigged in Carrara, some morph made in Hexagon and other directly in Carrara. I make all animation in Carrara and I think that if I tried back DS I will get very frustrated, it's a good program but now I'm used to Carrara and this is more powerful than DS.

Okay, thanks. You are probably aware that many Carrara users have expressed frustration at DAZ' focus, i.e. DS vs. Carrara. For all the good it did ...

Yes, personally I prefer Carrara. I like the UI and it's multi-threaded and I'm using a lot the network rendering features, I don't use stock models (they are very good but I prefer to create them by myself, so they're more "personalized", it's a lot of work but I think it worth it), I founded the rigging more intuitive than the one of DS, I don't use textures anymore and now I'm using the procedural shaders in Carrara. So I don't see the reason to turn back to DS.
