Daz3D won't open; closes after "Building Interface" on startup

Hello,

I started a thread about this a while ago, but I can't find it now. Apologies for posting again.

I'm still having the same trouble as I was before. Daz3D 4.10 will not start on my computer. Daz3D 4.9 worked just fine.

I've researched this and have tried everything I can find, and can think of. I even went ahead and deleted Daz3D and all my Daz3D content tonight to do a clean install, and used CCleaner to remove any registry entries leftover. Even after this clean install (and after restarting my machine), Daz3D shows its initial startup routine, seems to complete it, and then nothing happens after the startup pop-up disappears, right after "Building Interface."

I am on Windows 7 using a Nvidia GTX 1070 with the latest drivers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Please let me know if I can provide any further info. Thanks!

Sorry you're having difficulties. Even though DAZ Studio does not successfully load, it should still be logging the startup process in the log file. Normally, you would access the log file through the DAZ Studio interface, but that is obviously not an option for you. The log file is simply a text file that records significant events during each DAZ Studio session. The file is cumulative, so it can be quite large\long, with the most recent information recorded at the bottom or end. The latter is what we want. Here's where to find your log file on your hard drive: C:\Users\"your username"\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\, where C:\ is your boot drive (normal with Windows), and "yourusername" is exactly what you think - the username you are logged on with. Scroll down in that Studio4 folder and find and open log.txt. Now scroll down in the text file to the very bottom. Now, slowly scroll up until you find an entry like the following: +++++++++++++++ DAZ Studio 4.10.x.x starting +++++++++++++++++. Now select that text and everything below it to the end of the file, and copy and paste it into a new text document. Save the resulting text file as "Last DAZ log entry" or something. With luck, the last part of that should give some clue regarding what is going wrong. If you need assistance in reading or interpreting the log, post a copy of that new text file you created attached to a post here. There are no guarantees that the log will reveal the problem, but it is a good place to start.

  • Hey, SixDs. Thanks for the reply! I've made a copy of my log entry as you suggested. I'm not quite sure what could point to a problem, so I'm posting it here. I see a lot of "not initialized" in there, but I don't know if that's normal.

Okay, there is nothing there that necessarily points to a solution, but I do have a question: in your previous (working) installation of DAZ Studio, did you have any Custom Actions added to your toolbar?

  • Not that I know of. I don't know how to set a custom action, so I doubt it. I also didn't use many add-ons, if that's related. Most were official plug-ins installed with DIM. Outside of that, I think I only installed something to help handle dynamic cloth.

The next item appearing in the log file after Creating Action Manager... in my install of DAZ Studio 4.10 (also on Windows 7) is Creating Pane Manager... So the only thing I can deduce is there is either an issue with the Action Manager that prevents DAZ Studio from opening, or a problem with the Action Manager loading. If the latter, the last line in your log file (which seems truncated - did you capture it all in your cut-and-paste?) mentions dForce, so maybe there is some issue with that. In any event, it may be necessary to contact DAZ support directly, perhaps with a link to this thread, to see if they have any suggestions (since they are obviously more familiar with their own code). Sorry I couldn't be more help.

  • Hey SixDs, no worries! Thanks for the suggestions even still. I went back to the logs as I was surprised that it looked like I did indeed fail to copy and paste correctly, but in fact, it looks like my program isn't always getting to the same point every time. I've included two logs from two different instances of running it. Daz3D often cuts out where you've seen, with dForce mentioned and then nothing else. In another instance (log file 2, attached), Daz seems to get a little further, but then can't connect to the authentication servers. I'll go ahead and open a ticket as you suggest. Thanks for the help!
