Transfer Utility Hiding Loose Geometry?

I made an exit sign in blender, assigned some face groups and materials to it, and exported as an obj file. I imported to DS 4.9 to rig it (there are about 4 moving parts on it).

Then I wanted to add a plane inside the sign to act as an emissive surface so the sign would light up. So I did that and tweaked the model in other minor ways in blender. Re-exported as an obj. Imported to DS and used transfer utility so I wouldn't have to redo my rigging. The emissive plane is clearly visible in the imported obj, but disappears after running through transfer utility. I have tried a few different settings, but nothing seems to work.

Interestingly, I can still select the plane with the geometry selection tool, but it seems to be invisible as part of a node or as a material, there is no way to select it with selection or surface tools.

Is this a bug or is there an easy fix I am overlooking?

Thanks.
