I see it on lots of items.
shiny skin? but I still need another S word.
skin SSS 25%
mouth no SSS, mouth SSS
did a search in the user guide and got ZERO.
how could it not be in the user guide when it's on hundreds of items?

Subsurface Scattering.
is that a desirable thing?
what is it all about?
I looked that up in the user guide and subsurface scattering is not in there either.
subsurface only once in the section on surfaces (which I read)
how does it apply to
skin 75 SSS
skin 50 SSS
skin 25 SSS
Subsurface scattering emulates the way that light strikes certain surfaces, penetrates them, and bonces back out. Wax is an extreme example but it is a noticeable contributor to skin's appearance too.
so one one end you have more of a a "cartoon" look and the other extreme looks more natural?
higher number more reflective?
what is the end result if using a high number versus a low number?
thanks
The number is a strength percentage - the higher it is the more of the scattered light you see. Which looks more natural is a matter of taste, and of the lighting being used.
