Around the block again: DAZ and antiviruses.
Yes here it is, that old subject I am obstinate about. I refuse to pause or turn off my antiV to install any DAZ content or apps. So I now have 20 uninstalled pieces of content. And I refuse to change the way I do anything to suit DAZ, I just don't shop at DAZ anymore.
But that isn't the issue now, now it's that I can't uninstall DAZ apps. I don't use/haven't used the last build of studio 3; you know the one that borked collada. I want to uninstall it but my antiV wont let the uninstaller run.
Is DAZ ever going to fix this freaking issue?
And don't point a finger at my antiV, DAZ is absolutely the only company I have this issue with. If I was having this issue with any other content from any other site I wouldn't be so obstinate about it.

If you won't check for a false positive by doing a scan with an alternative on-demand scanner and won't temporarily switch the AV off (while disconnected from the net) then your only options are to leave the application installed or to reformat and reinstall Windows.
Try using an AntiV that isn't a POS.

you sure make things hard for yourself to prove a point.
I myself would be shitty at and complaining to the AV company, I did when my virginbroadband usb dongle and autoplay installer kept getting a positive hit.
yes, I rang and told Virgin too.
I don't see my antiV as the issue. As I said, if I had this issue with any other apps, or content from any other site, I wouldn't be laying this in DAZ's lap. But this issue is specifically with DAZ content and apps. So it isn't up to avast to fix it, it is up to DAZ.
Actually it is up to them if the software is giving a false positve based on just part of the code. They should update the library code so that Clean software does not give a false positve on that section of none threating code any longer. They should up date the library to look for a section of known code that is only found in the offending virus. The Code Flagged as a virus has been proven as clean and none intrusive without the rest of the damaging code attached to it. That is why it is called a false Positve.
Your DAZ uninstaller isn't a virus, so its clearly your antivirus software that is the issue. The fact that you have no other software that clashes with it is irrelevant, it just means you haven't found the other software it has problems with yet.
Even if DAZ was to provide a "fix" for this just for you, which is extremely unlikely, since its an older version of studio, you realise you would have to reinstall it before you could use your shiny new uninstaller? Stop being stubborn over a pointless issue and just bypass your antivirus.
You would have a MUCH greater chance of getting a resolution if you reported the issue to your antivirus company and hope they address the issue, which, quite frankly, is the correct way to fix this type of false positive problem.
Well unless there actually is a virus in the DAZ programs, you can't really blame them. It's not their fault that their code or the behaviour of their programs can be interpreted as suspicious by an AV program. That would be the same as blaming a harmless person for looking like another person who has comitted a crime.
If anyone is to blame, it's the people who create viruses. If there were no viruses, we would be saved from a lot of different problems.
Please. It is a problem with the AV giving a false positive. In order to get it fixed, you need and must to provide a sample to your AV manufacturer of the file. They will cheer in joy if it turns out to be an actual virus, so they can include it in their databases.
If you worry about something like "this will break some law", I'm reasonably certain that no one is gonna scream if you provide a sample to the AV company. Best to be safe than sorry, eh?
Wow if DAZ Studio is the only app to cause this issue you are lucky cuz both ZBrush and C4D have been known to set mine off during install which is why most apps when you install them request you shut off antivirus software during install. You scan the actual installer first before install...then shut it off and install and turn it back on. I believe UVLayout has also set mine off as well. All in all I have more apps that do it then that don't. If DS is the only one that is like this for you, I would consider yourself very fortunate but it isn't something for DAZ3D to fix. Antiviruses look for certain things it feels would be "suspicious use" to your average app or user....if you own a multitude of Graphics Software, you will find that apparently they most find us artists and our apps "suspicious" LOL
To give you an idea how common a thing this is...here are instructions on installing Adobe Photoshop CS3 (Please see Step 2)
http://www.ehow.com/how_2248068_install-photoshop.html
That is another app I always have to disable it on. Now I have ran Photoshop on my computer since PS 6 and pretty much every install I've had to disable antivirus as it will A) Give a false positive or B) Totally bork installation
Anyway as I said, nothing new to me and definitely not shocking though I guess if this is the only app you'd ever experienced this with it could be worrisome but for me it's par for the course and not anything that surprises me in the least.
I used to get a false positive all the time with DAZ model downloads when I was using Norton Anti-Virus. And ONLY from Norton. I use a different brand now. Since the last installer change, my current a-v tells me it's a file not normally downloaded. But I always do a separate scan of the file, which always comes up clean, before installing.
Oh yeah, I know this problem all too well myself. It's a pain I know. Anti-viruses used to do that with EVERYTHING I'd try to put on my old computer (which is now downstairs and therefore is now my father's problem :) ).
It's no big deal, just go ahead and disable it until you're done installing everything on.
Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, and wrong.
It is completely a false positive, and Daz cannot touch Avast's coding, therefore it is up to Avast developers to fix it.

And it is up to DAZ to work with avast to get it fixed, it's not my job.
If DAZ would do what many off us have been begging DAZ to do for ages; go to zip files, I wouldn't have this issue. I know what is setting off the antiV is the installer, not the content.
Where have you been the last couple of months? DAZ is going to zip files now, many files have already been converted..
I have avast, and I haven't had any problems installing content on my computer. Frankly, I've never switched off the AV during install, I just tell the AV to see it as safe, and it'll proceed as normal. So, I'm unfamiliar with what is happening. I have DAZ3D Inc. on the exclusion list of the AV.

If that is true why is new content still coming out in installers not zips? DAZ may be working on converting some content to zips, but it seems a waste of time to release new content in an installer only to have to convert it to zips later.
Where have I been? After 12 years of DAZ's philosophy of "release it now fix it later" I had had quite enough. I don't have the patience to wait 6-12 months for a fix to something that shouldn't have been released broke.

Good point. Not sure why they do that, but I assume there is a logical reason for it.
Maybe there is no logic to it or they were already made months ago so it would take more work to make them zips.
Same here. I use Avast and It has never gone off on any of the Daz installers I've used. Just to clearify, I use Avast with it's default settings.
I use a free version of Norton and I think I use the default settings.

My guess is the Installer is not quite ready or they are waiting until all content is available in the zip file format before releasing the installer, but of course that is speculation, nothing else.
Some content is already in zip files -- I've downloaded them, and installed them peachy-keen.
However, could you at least provide a list of those twenty or so alarming installers, so *someone else* can send them to Avast! for analysis? PLEASE? A list. Just, take a screencap with Print Screen + paint program and post the pic of the installers (800 px wide) that are doing it. Pretty pretty pretty please?
Well, never mind, this argument has been rendered moot by todays update to avast.
...so it sounds like the situation has been resolved.
I've been running Norton's IS suite for the last couple years which is supposedly "hostile" to Daz installers, yet the only warnings I get are those which mention that "not enough Norton users have downloaded the file yet".
....and my firewall's security level is set very high.
I can not wait for Norton to do the same thing. Three years with DAZ, never had a False Positve untill this store. Glad your fixed, I hope I'm next.

Whaaat??? For years I've been routinely ignoring any "zip" file, assuming that it is for the MAC computers. Now are you telling me that "zip" files might be for PC too. :ohh:
Is DAZ going to tell me this in the "downloads" page or do I have to read their mind?
I know that some people have been screaming bloody murder to get DAZ to switch to zips instead of the overly complicated and continually evolving (not always for the better) "exe" installers. But I've gotten used to them and I'm an old fart, set in my ways and will probably miss them. :ohh:
Don't worry. When you get the new zips it will be obvious, because you only get the one zip. no duplicate files saying one is PC and one is Mac.
I'm one of those that have screamed bloody murder over the zips VS installers.
I have fairly well organized runtimes, installers install bloat I have to go back through and remove; DS files carrara can't use. With installers I have to go hunting, with zips I can sort the content runtiime before adding it to my runtimes. As it stands I usually install to a dummy folder to sort the content before adding to my runtimes, which means several added steps in just running the installer. As in unzip, sort, VS running through the several steps to get the installer set to install, then sort.
But now that this is sorted, what to complain about? The forum is just what I have grown to expect from DAZ. The only other thing driving me up the walls is something i have been complaining about since studio 4 was released, no reason to keep complaining about it because after a year it is quite evident it's not getting fixed..
I wouldn't trust Norton as av.
used it years ago, until i find out.
norton didn't fount most virus on my system.
since then never used a norton av anymore.
...agreed, several years ago, Norton had serious issues . However beginning with IS 2010, the software underwent a major revision which plugged the leaks and streamlined the software's operation to have minimal impact on system functions.
With my schedule, I do not have the time to play IT specialist, manually managing and updating several different freeware AV and anti malware apps on a daily basis. I barely have enough time to work on a single scene after I get home from work.
