it worked, thanks :)
So how can i use the lux surface?
I set up this basic color shader, but it doesn't render the color?
Note that I am not a Carrara user, but I am seeing from previous screenshots that the Material has to be set to an appropriate Lux Material, so e.g. Lux Glossy.
k, thanks :)
Pfew, looks like a lot of new things to experiment with!
Here is a good place to start. Lots of good info at the Carrara Café

I know that there are regular development releases of Luxrender on a roughly weekly basis - does anyone know if these are usable with Luxus for Carrara, and if you need to do anything special to get them to work? Or do we have to wait for the next full release of Luxrender and Luxus?

Been playin some more and it looks pretty sweet. Think I will have lots of fun using this :D
How come we don't have the "shiney metal" material ? I don't see it in the list.
The default shader on an obj with multiple domains doesn't seem to work, is that right? You have to assign a shader to each material in the obj.
Anybody know how to get reflections? the roughness sliders don't seem to do anything...
HI Elele :)
for reflections , Lux glass 2,. Lux Metal 2, or Glossy coating, will automatically have reflections,. you can also create a Lux Mix (two options) and have a base material mixed with a reflective,. or,.. Car paint,. will also give you multiple layer options,.
:)
...or simply the glossy material will give you some level of reflection with higher specular levels. Set roughness to zero and you will get smooth reflections, increase it a bit to get blurry reflections.
I think Shiny Metal is basically the Metal shader with a glossy coat, which you can get using the Lux Mix material. You can get reflective silver / chrome metals with just the Metal material.
I suggest setting up a very simple scene and having a play with materials and their various parameters, just to get the feel of them. Some behave differently than their Carrara counterparts. There is some comprehensive documentation on the Luxrender Wiki site, but keep in mind that sometimes materials are missing some parameters in their Luxus implementations.
I am using a simple plane with a sphere and lux sun to check things out. I'm trying with the glossy material, like in the luxrender wiki but haven't gotten it to work. I tried the samples from Spfereic lab, those work but dunno why.
Is there another setting i need to activate to get reflection? (like bounces in carrara)
I got it :D
Had IOR set to value 100%, but apparently that doesn't work, so i set it to IOR=1
Hmm, how come these parameters are missing? The carpaint seems to missing the depth and absorption parameters. Thats a bummer :(
They are available in the glossy material

Looks like I missed that one. I will add it for the fix that includes
- dof
- cloth mixup
- cloth absorption and depth
- mac needs to exetuve LuxRender detached.

Hi Spheric, Any idea when this will be available. I have been using Luxus extensively since its release (see my Rendo gallery) and am particularly keen to be able to incorporate the DoF in my renders.
I'd also appreciate an answer to my previous question about whether Luxus can be used with the weekly updates that Luxrender puts out?

My freelancing programming has taken up my time recently, but I expect to send an update to DAZ within 2 weeks.
I would be confident that you can use the weekly builds with Luxus. To change the path of which LuxRender it uses, activate Luxus in the Render Room, then go back to the Assembly Room and do Menu -> Edit -> LuxRender Path.

That's great news - thanks for the prompt response.
Sweet :)
Can we do gpu rendering with luxus carrara?
I'm having a bit of trouble reproducing the color effects for the mirror material. Is there a parameter missing there? (it's not really clear on the luxrender samples page)
Uhhmmm, whats new in the new Version?
Thanks for info,
Eddy
I thought I'd share where I've got to in trying to produce a realistic portrait with Luxus for Carrara. This is V4 Reby Sky with Wild Hair and with Depth of Field applied. This will be coming in the next update, Spheric was kind enough to let me have an advance copy.
Just fabulous!
One of the other things included with the next update is that the frame issue has been fixed (the frame could be a different size in Luxrender to that in Carrara if the frame shape was different). As they now match exactly, it will enable compositing between a Carrara render and a Luxrender of the same subject - which could be useful for adding Carrara hair to a figure. I may well try this next!
I couldn't resist, so here is an image made by composing a Luxrender of the figure with hair done in Carrara - worked out pretty well and the two images matched perfectly.
Excellent! Now we are getting somewhere!
There are a few textures where parameters are missing and I thought it might be worth making a list so that they can be incorporated in a future update. Here are those I have spotted, it is more a starter than a comprehensive list.
Band - missing entirely and this would be incredibly useful - unless there is a way to convert Carrara's "Gradient" to this, which would be even better (for compatibility).
Brick is missing quite a number of parameters, such as type, width, height, depth etc. This looks a very versatile texture when all the parameters are in place.
Fbm - needs to have the parameters added - fractal noise is an incredibly useful texture when fully implemented
Multimix is missing altogether
Thanks!
Agree!
Also nice: the use of sIBL files for Infinite Light
Thanks too!
So what's going on down here :D
Any new renders?
Does anybody know how to activate the gpu rendering? I'd like to try it but dunno how...
Anything happening with a update ?
Seems that LuxRender isn´t working with 8.5 or am I the only one who will get a Nil-Pointer-Error?
Luxus / Luxrender is working for me. Have you set the Luxrender path under the Edit menu?
