HI Phil
In the default plant shader,. in the assembly room view,. there's the Plant shader (global) at the top,. but also a set of empty channels under that. and those bypass the plant shader, and apply to the tree parts,.
just make some new Lux shaders for the trunk branches and leaf or leaves (Lux matte)
and stick them in those channels.
if you're using a leaf with a separate alpha map,. you can use a Lux Mix with your leaf map, and a Null,. mixed with the alpha map.
I'd post images but I'm mid way through a render.
That's fine thanks, I'll give that a try.
Edit - Yes, that worked, thanks!
I never could get Reality to work very well with Daz Studio. It always came out grainy and crappy.
But I have to admit, I jumped at the chance to get Luxus for Carrara. I've created one picture with it and what's killing me at this point is the lack of Realistic Skies. I experimented a bit with using the SUNSKY, SKY, and even some IBL stuff but it doesn't give me the skies I want or the control over them I want. So if there's anything I'd add to luxus at this point it would be the Sky support.
Here's what I've got so far... I'm having a problem getting his eyes to render right. I think I've re-textured all of his eye stuff but I still can't get a non-shine/reflection thing happening.
Thepencilneck - use a glass material on the eye surface (if it is a 4th generation character) and this should do the trick.
The scaling of bump maps seems to be wrong (unless I'm doing something wrong!). You can control the intensity of the effect with the map brightness control (is there another way that I haven't found?) but I'm needing to set it to a fraction of one percent to get a usable result, which surely can't be right!
I use a Lux Scale on the input of the bumpmap, I make the first input a texture map, and the second input a Value(0-100%). Between 1% to 10% seems about right to me.

I'm just rendering a face and I needed to set the brightness of the bump map to 0.05% to get a level of bump that looked good. I hadn't noticed Lux Scale, might try that the nest time around, but I still think that it needs adjusting so that we can use more normal scaling values.
Here is my first test of a character wit adjusted materials.
OK I get it :red::red:
thanks
Very cool.
Everything looks super great except the teeth. Too white and maybe opaque. Not sure if it needs some translucency or SSS though.
@Spheric..
Just got this today...awesome job indeed :D
I had drifted away from Carrara a bit lately (mainly due to focusing on the Octane Render plugins I got a while back for Ds & Poser Pro 2012) anyway.. I just wanted to say thanks to you for yet another amazing plugin (I brought Luxus for Ds a little while ago, that's a mighty fine plugin indeed) BUT what I have really been waiting for all along is a unbiased render engine for Carrara (thanks to you) it's finally here :D
Needless to say I dived in right away and had a play ;) Loving what I see so far :)
I seriously need to catch up on all the news, gossip and info that I have missed out on regarding changes in Carrara and your new plugin so it looks like I have a lot of reading to do :p
One thing I have to comment on is the speed of development for this new plugin.. Have you found a way to compress more hours in to one day ? (Speaking as a father) that would be an awesome trick to pull off :p
Anyway, looking forward to getting to know how to use this but it's being made a heck of a lot easier by all these amazing posts by the more 'seasoned users' of Carrara like Dartanbeck, 3Dage, PhilW, Holly, 3drendero, and all the others.. Thanks for your links, uploads & input/helpful posts guys n gals :D
Thank you for the kind words. Having already written Luxus for Studio helped, but I wanted to more or less start from scratch so that this would turn out more the Carrara way. In other words, there is no shared code in the two products. There is still some refinements I would like and plan to finish, but here it is for now.
I wrote most of this in my spare time. Some who followed the development may have noticed the very rapid development and then almost a sudden stop, it was largely finished, but the truth is my motherboard on my laptop burned up(smoke and everything). I got it repaired and got a new laptop so I have a backup, but it slowed me.
This product's success is largely a result of the Carrara guys/gals. I have to admit replicating an object and then turning it to glass, then adding a infinite light with one of DimentionTheory's HDRs was very cool. Carrara has some very cool stuff in it. The replicator and the shader room are very powerful.
Yes, Sperical Labs, Carrara R O C K S ! ! !
For the record, so do you! Thanks for making all of this possible. The work you've done here is superb! I really enjoy how you've truly made it a part of the workings of Carrara - so it's easy for artists to just create stuff for Lux from the ground up - or convert some existing scenes as well. Although I still haven't hade enough time to actually create a Lux scene to render, I have looked around through many of the various possibilities - and just how it's set up within the interface. I really like the layout.
Thanks!
Oh... and sorry to hear about your laptop - glad that she's feeling better now - and also has a new friend. I know how hard it is to try and put the smoke back into a chip once it comes out. Nigh impossible. That smoke was in there only one way - perfectly configured. Let it out - and you might just as well call it a day for that chip!
I'm actually getting this error:
[2013-05-27 22:25:56 Error: 14] Static loading of light 'sunsky2' failed.
[2013-05-27 22:25:56 Error: 47] luxLightSource: light type 'sunsky2' unknown
With any Sun, Sky2, or Sunsky thing I try to do.
What version is your LuxRender?
What version is your LuxRender?
lol.
Uh.
Old?
:) smh
Downloading the latest version now.
I just saw this thread, and I'm in sort of the same position as OrionUK up above (been playing with Octane in Poser for the last half year or so), but I'm still a Carrara gal at heart, so I went and got the plugin within minutes of finding out about it. XD
The only downside so far is that I'll have to wait until Thursday to play with it.
Thank you, SphericLabs, for developing it. I've been hoping for unbiased rendering from within Carrara since version 6. <3</p>
I like being able to mix the lighting after the render has started... but I'm going to need more time getting use to the new shaders, especially glass since I have all kinds of tricks in Carrara shaders to control edge falloff...
It's nice to have a different "look", even if I don't know what I'm doing. LOL.
It's a render, not a photo ?
Thank you, Holly, you sold it.
A very nice complement to Octane (and much cheaper :-) ) since I can build my shaders from inside Carrara, shortening the workflow and also rendering with my laptop, which doesn't have the right graphic card for Octane.
Edit: Just an idea before buying. Is it compatible with Carrara 7 pro ? No version stated in DAZ shop and this thread speaks only about C6
PRO.
Holly, holly, holly.
That ROCKS.
There are some things that I'm going to have to wean myself off of. Namely, some of the big, huge lightdome rigs. I thought I'd killed my computer with one of those, yesterday. The groups of lights don't translate into groups of lights in Lux.
The Cloud Nine cloud domes don't show up. But I'm assuming that I'll have to make my own clouds using Lux and I can re-use some of the same techniques.
wow!
it took a lot of time to render it?
Hi,
@Philemo: for Carrara 8.1+ only.
rk.
Than you RK for the answer.
I'm afraid I'll have to wait, my self allotted budget for 3D being already spent... Wait and save :-(
Just too bad.
Great image Holly :)
is that a Lux Sunlight plus the Lux infinite with (HDRI) ?
The luxrender version was definitely a big problem with my sky stuff.
To try to follow Holly's example, I grabbed Tomalin's Eminence along with some Parkside Point Ground and Rocky Flats. Then I stuck a big Terrain in the background with a Snow Complex shader.
My lights don't see to be illuminating the terrain in the background.
I tried to create a cloud using a volume shader on a cube and I didn't get anything except something that looked like a concrete box. Are there any tutorials, yet?
Here's what I got (with KodaChrome 200 to make the colors a little punchier):
I am guessing that the Snow Complex Shader did not come across. The manual explains that only the more simple Carrara stuff will get autoconverted correctly.

But, very cool image.
I got mine and I am so happy. :) Thanks.
My pic is the sunlight, and the sky2 (? which just adds a lot of blue), and the infinite HDR light... I allowed it to render about 40min, but there are still some white pixels in the shadow areas so probably needed more time to cook...
I also made the sun size (scale?) as high as it would go which was 500% - I thought might be like soft shadows, but I don't think that is what actually happened with this setting...
I can see I will need to make a lot of starter shaders.... Baker will also play an important role so I can keep some of my procedural tricks.
I guess I should also set up some people to see how skin looks...
Are you guys doing anything special for the replicator(s)? Do you think I can use inagoni's Replica plugin?
I had a few crashes... And at one point Carrara started exporting all textures as jpegs before sending to Lux.... LOL. Definitely be cautious with the files stacking up. I can see filling a hdd with these intermediate files...
Ok - I am running the plug in on the Carrara beta 8.5 on Mac OS 10.8.
When I send the render to luxus and I pause it or end it - it never goes back to Carrara with the finished image. The image in Carrara is just filled it with 1's (even though normally it uses all 8 cores from my i7) Is this the correct behavior or is it just wonky on the Mac? I know I can export the image from the luxus standalone renderer but it seems like the image should open in Carrara when I decide the render is finished. The only way I can get back into Carrara right now is to quit Luxus and then I see the image full of 1's in Carrara.
I love the light groups feature - dynamically changing lights while the render runs is amazing and even though the renders are much slower this interactivity makes up for what would be 10 times as many test renders.
This is an amazing tool for $20.00 - thank you!
ps - I can't run the non beta of Carrara on 10.8 or I would run Luxus from there.
