all of a sudden I'm having a problem. Never encountered it before.
Genesis is selected, as you can see -but the "default" category in smart content is GONE.
I have restarted both DS4 and my computer. No dice.
Help!

It looks like the CMS isn't running or is being blocked from communicating with DS. What Operating System are you using?
win7 x64
and I restarted the computer a THIRD time anddddd..... now it works.
So weird. Sorry for the chicken little impression.
Wonder what can cause it after 2 restarts but not the 3rd.
I'm thinking there may be a problem with 4.6 and CMS. I've never had a problem with CMS before and with this build it's stopping constantly. I don't use smart content, but I notice when clothes don't auto-conform 1/2 way through dressing a character. I start it again and sometime later it stops. Still trying to narrow down what may be causing it.
I'm also using Win7 64.
Strange, CMS should be more stable in 4.6 because of the fixes in the DB client. Do you use categories? If so, use Export User Data to back them up; if not, you can skip that step. Shut down DS and uninstall the CMS, then delete the database files. The reinstall DS4.6 so CMS gets reinstalled fresh and a new database is created.

Thanks Mike... I'll give that a try. :) It IS weird because through every version and beta I've never had an issue. LOL
Nah.. don't use categories or anything... I'm still using old school content tree. LOL
Thanks again :)
daz seems better to recommend user to clean un-install CMS and reset or remove database , when version up ds.
Officialy DAZ person say,, when install new version ds,, you need not uninstall CMS or, reset database , simply install ds 4.6.
but I do not feel so. we may better, once delete database when update CMS.
CMS record and keep some corrupt data , and sometimes it can not be removed by daz contents editor..
these gradually stored rubbish data, may cause more problem.
I hear some people who had same problems after up-date ds 4.6.
then usually they have not uninstalled CMS or they have not delete database, when up-date CMS and daz studio,
and try delete database,, re-install cms,, then install Daz studio,,install new cms,, and make clean database again,
it remove their problem often.
Anyway CMS need more suitability I think.

Deleting the database files needs to be done separately, after uninstalling CMS? Where are the database files that need to be deleted? As far as I could tell, uninstalling CMS left the ...\Content Management Service\ and the ...Content Management Service\databases\ folders in place but empty (on my WinXP machine anyway). Deleting those empty folders before re-installation seemed to help get things running again, though I don't know how.

The database files on Win7 were in C\ProgramData\Daz3D\ContentManagementService.. and by first uninstalling CMS, then deleting the whole database folder and then reinstalling DS, it now works perfectly! :)
Mike's a keeper :)
Though I'm wondering why it got trashed in the first place. LOL And why it affects Auto-fit! That's the only way I knew it was bunked in the first place. Could it be from installing Carrara 8.5? It's never broken before in all the years. Things that make you go Hmmm... :-P
I ran into this exact problem when I switched on earlier today.
After reading this thread, before I started messing with the install, I got to thinking why now?? Well... yesterday I was installing some other software (the free version of Vue) and I incautiously clicked 'Yes' at the wrong moment and got some Extras installed onto my machine. This was the free version of Zonealarm (I will save my rant about stealth software installs like this for elsewhere) which began to pester me with queries about 'Did I want to allow this' and so on.
Since this was the only change to my config I could think of, I uninstalled Zonealarm and lo - Daz content was showing up fine.
So...it seems that Zonealarm may cause this problem, and therefore other PC security tools might too.
