Animated Texture, where are you?

I am looking for an animated shader plug-in -- preferably clean interface and well-done plug-in offering the features:

1) Key feature: Read off image sequence based on name and sequential number using naive DAZ Studio image format support.. Ie: IMG####.JPG|PNG|TIF (MOV/AVI with transparency support.. is that even possible?)
2) important feature: Sequential numbering offset +/- (example, offset +20 starts with image #20 on timeline #0)
3) Important feature: Start frame/end frame (example, texture animation starts at timeline #120; 0 to 119 will repeatedly using #120 image file)
4) Important feature: Decide when sequential ends (example, end at 20 even though there are 200 in the folder)
5) Important feature: Loop on/off.. Off will result repeating end of sequential image file
6) Not to forget: Both Mac/PC support

There are the solutions out there. They are either broken or not UI friendly. Need to be cleaner/quicker workflow. Not something like creating a script file (because that is considered a "baked" solution than real-time solution).

I previously purchased DreamLight's animated texture but it's broken for years. I asked them if they plan to make it support to DAZ 4.5+, they said they would be considering. (I don't understand why it's not priority to them?)

I know you're looking for DazStudio solutions, but I just wanted to tell you that Carrara does animated textures and it's on sale 48% right now...

    Best of luck!

Ahh, thanks for pointing that out. I checked out some YouTube videos of this product. I do love some of their features. Dynamic (hair, cloth), physic, and animated texture.

I think I'll be ok with DS.. Just a few features need to add then I'm ready to make some fun film shorts... :D

The Octane Render for DS plugin offers additional support for image sequences as textures since update v1.0.113.2305

From the outside it can be difficult to track the update information because it is mostly posted in internal forums.
I hope it is ok that I share this here:

image sequences are now updated in stills also.
note: to use an image sequence as texture map, the images needs to be named conforming to this template: *4-or-5-digit-number.ext
image sequences now work also for the hdri environment.

Nevertheless I have not yet tried this out.

This thread should be readable to no registered users:

Maybe some people over there can provide you with details to deceide if that might be a working solution.

while I too love my Carrara, there is also Poser which does animated textures too, another option to consider.

other alternatives are rendered png sequences with opacity compiled with an animated background in a video editor or even batch edited gimp (photoshop etc) then compiled in virtualdub (free) or another video editor.
or try using "greenscreen" otherwise known as chromakey, cinegobs keyer is a free chromakey program.

also maybe mcasual's texmatanim plugin, DS3 but might work in 4 unsure

Lin, I didn't know OctaneRender plug-in offers that. I'm starting to be tempted....

Wendy, thanks for the tips. I am trying to animate river's ripple water... :o)

I wonder if you can use animated displacement maps for that... /wistful

you can use mcasual's Matanim script, it works in DS4
uv shift is what you want to animate and displacement

Would that work to animate gel lights? Or maybe a variation of that script? I was asked recently about animated lights and I'd like to be able to provide a solution.

I suppose I can use Matanim and enable animate property for displacement offset and do the tweening. That's a good enough solution.. :o) Thanks Wendy. Hopefully it gives satisfaction result.
