Ok, where I live...EVERY company refuses to lay a line out here...sad part is, it stops right up the road

We're stuck with very crappy and expensive satellite.

What I would like to know if there is ANY company that installs private lines. Need it be DSL or fiber (I would like fiber)

I've been trying to search for such a thing, but nothing really comes up

If you can get a telephone land-line, then you should be able to get at least basic DSL over the same length of copper... although, depending on how far "right up the road" is, you might need a repeater of some sort at each end of that phone line..

telephone land line is every where. Just because you have a home phone line doesn't mean you can get DSL

And up the road is like...not even half a mile, and they won't bring it down

Is clear.com an option for you? There is a coverage map on their website. If you would like my review of their service, just holler.

Depending on how big your area is, companies may feel the return on investment for laying/extending the line isn't worth it.

I doubt there's a privatized company that will lay line for a civilian, and you have to think that once it's laid, you're also responsible for future maintenance/upgrades as it would belong to you and not the internet provider.

Is Version Fios in your area by chance?

that's why I was asking about private lines...like...paying a company to slap one of those boxes by the closest line poll and take the wire to my house

I feel for you. Until 7 years ago, Cable here was a NO not going to happen and the same for DSL. We had a small growth spurt (6 houses I think) and then things changed. I hope you get a provider that will work with you.

There are like 20 houses, their close by. Not like their a mile apart. I don't live that far out

Like...what, 3 years ago ATT SAID they were working on getting the fiber out here. Yup...their not moving their asses anytime soon. the tech people even told my mom (when they were working on something) was, "we're setting up the boxes to get fiber working with them"

then they go around and say it cost too much money to even bother with the type of areas we live in

I'm in the same boat. I live 1 mile beyond maximum DSL distance, in a rural area. Only I can't even get satellite - too many trees.

We have ONE option, and I don't think it's worth the cost.

By FCC regs, your local telco MUST provide you with T1 or higher bandwidth service if you order it. But you have to pay the cost for the circuit install (one-time charge, could be more than $600) and a monthly rate somewhere around $300 a month. And the minimum contract is usually 3 years.

And T1 is 1.4 mb/sec, just about the same as the lowest quality DSL circuit.

My satellite is faster then T1

I did read that a rural area built their own network area. I was trying to figure out what they did to do such a thing and what they even bought. If I could figure that out, I would be willing to try to use kickstarter to get finding for a project like that
