I came across this interview:

http://3dartdirect.com/3dad-016-poser-pro-custom-clothing-creation-with-sergio-martinez-from-xurge3d/

which is well worth listening to.

He makes an interesting comment that his creations for M4 outsell those for V4 because I keep coming across comments in the forums here which say male clothing does not sell as well as for female and that is why there is far more female clothing available in the store.

Yes, more renders are with female figures than males. Male stuff does sell but not near as good as female stuff

I think there are always going to be exceptions amongst individual publishers about what does and doesn't sell better, but there's no denying that the majority of renders I see are female. I've seen countless renders across many groups on DeviantArt, Pixiv and Renderosity and the cast is dominantly female. There are some artists who almost exclusively specialise in male art, but it's fairly clear that most renders lean towards females.

I think the internet has proven that cute and sexy wins people over, and many artists like to deliver art which others will eat up.

Thanks for the link, d/ling now. yeah, i think it has more to do with his particular style and niche group more than anything. I have several outfits from him and i usually buy the male version, even though I rarely use male figures. Plus with the male version I can easily use it for female genesis characters also.

My totally uneducated guess would be because he doesn't deal in skimpwear, and when people need armour or 'proper clothing', they're just as likely to be rendering a male. Higher female model sales seem to be skimpwear-influenced (if the "best-selling" sales that Rendo runs from time to time are any indication).

That said, back on topic, this guy has got talent, and makes really great outfits for a very reasonable price.
